Club of joy and happiness “sisters” together again!
Former co-stars and friends Rosalind Chao, Lauren Tom, Ming Na Wen and Tamlyn Tomita prove their bond is stronger than ever with an Instagram post recreating a scene from the movie.
“Starting the holidays with our sisters #JoyLuckClub!” Wen described the cute video of these women now compared to when they first met. “Thanks for hosting a great dinner and making us all do this, Lauren [Tom] & Curt [Kaplan]! Thanks Ollie for making the video! You are a great Instagram/Tiktok son!😂.”
“Happy Holidays!!💚❤️💚#FriendsForever,” Wen continued.
Tomita took to the comments section to spread some holiday cheer.
“The food was fantastic, the friendships eternal, the fun contagious, and the ceremony was joyful and sparkling…Thank you, Lauren and Curt, and Ollie for sharing the warmth of your home and your hearts!!!” she wrote. “Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!❤️🥂💐🎉✨🕊”

Club of joy and happiness was the first Hollywood film to have an all-Asian cast and celebrated its 30th anniversary in September. The 1993 film is set in San Francisco, where four Chinese-American women, along with their Chinese immigrant mothers, gather to play Mahjong and exchange stories full of happiness, hardship and cultural clashes that occur between generations. ”
Sherry Cola, who starred in The joy of driving and represented members Club of joy and happiness cast with a Gold Generation Award at the Gold House Gold Gala in May, told PEOPLE that the film was a “unicorn” when it was released.
“I feel that we lacked the national team so much that we held tight when we saw it Club of joy and happiness is one of those things that gave us hope, made the dream seem doable,” Cola told PEOPLE. “To be able [present] That honor is just, I still get chills.”

Club of joy and happiness was also the centerpiece of the documentary Amy Tan: An Unintended Memoir, which premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. The documentary, directed by the late James Redford, focuses on Tan’s life and career.
