This Is the One Word You Can’t Say on a Cruise Ship, According to a Passenger Who Accidentally Said It

Viral TikToker Marc Sebastian shares the number one rule he learned during his time on a nine-month Royal Caribbean cruise.

The social media star — who has been sharing his experiences on the Utlimate World Cruise for the past 18 nights — said using the word “Titanic” is a big no-no on the cruise ship after his mishap mentioning it to fellow passengers.

“Who knew that? I’m not,” Sebastian said in a new clip released Monday that showed him reciting a “list of things I’ve learned about cruising” in his room.

With pen and notebook in hand, he explained: “I stated in front of a whole room of people who were having lunch that our ship is only 30 feet longer than the Titanic – when I tell you the dishes fell. The waiters were panting. It’s dead quiet.”

After making the mistake, Sebastian said his cruise ship friend Nadine whispered to him: “You mustn’t talk about the Titanic.”

“Well, it wasn’t like that in the freaking manual,” he remarked.

The social media star has had a journey full of drama. He set sail on a Royal Caribbean cruise on December 10 on an 18-night leg. Atria Books sponsored his trip after he mentioned that he wanted to experience a cruise on his Tiktok. His videos covering the trip amassed more than 600,000 views each on average, with some clips totaling more than 2 million.

Among his mishaps were being kicked out of the “Pinnacle” members’ lounge by security during a live broadcast after a viewer reported him to the crew in real time, stealing a chunk of ice from an Antarctic iceberg that had been brought on board, and getting into fights with several elite travelers. In one of his last messages from the ship before disembarking, he compared Serenade of the Sea to “a floating retirement home with a Cheesecake Factory.”

His leg of the trip was particularly disappointing as almost every planned excursion, including the Falkland Islands and Punta Arenas in Chile, was canceled at the last minute due to bad weather and high winds. Sebastian still achieved his goal of visiting the penguin colony.

He also shared a few other things he learned about cruising during his time in his recent video, including learning that “cruise ships have godfathers.” He then discovered that the godmother of the cruise ship carrying Whoopi Goldberg was moved to a plaque of the actress on the wall as a frame.

“Someone tell Whoopi girl, I got something for her,” Sebastian joked in the caption. Eventually, Sebastian discovered that “cruise ships fill their pools with seawater.”

“I don’t know how I thought in my head they were filling them, but what I didn’t think they were doing was filling them with seawater,” he said.

The long vacation — which has ticket prices ranging from $53,999 to $117,599 per person — is set to last 274 nights, visiting 11 wonders of the world and over 60 countries covering the Americas, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Mediterranean and Europe, before ending with September 10, 2024

After rumors swirled earlier this month that the cruise might be canceled due to dangerous conditions in the Red Sea and Suez Canal, where it was scheduled to visit in May, Royal Caribbean shared a statement with PEOPLE.

The statement read in part: “This adventure will complete its first segment in February, and we can’t wait to start the next leg of the journey soon after and begin exploring Asia.”
