Paul Campbell tells how his mother took her childhood nostalgia a little too far.
The actor spoke exclusively with PEOPLE alongside co-stars Tyler Hynes and Andrew Walker to promote their new Hallmark holiday movie Three wise men and a boy. While discussing the holiday season, Campbell, 45, revealed that his mother recently gave him a “bag of teeth.”
“I say, ‘What [this].’ She says, ‘Oh, these are your teeth that have all fallen out [out],” he recalls. “She’s like, ‘Do you want this?’ ”

His answer? Emphasized no. “I threw them in the trash straight away,” he admits, prompting Hynes, 38, to ask: “What’s wrong with you? Why would you do that? It was a gift from your mother!”
“It was my own teeth,” Campbell replies before Walker jumps into the conversation to defend Campbell’s mom.
“Think of the time she’s spent keeping those stinky things,” jokes Walker, 45.

While Campbell may not appreciate the fact that his mom has been saving his lost teeth all these years, he credits her for saving—and continuing to save—a special memory from his youth.
“I made it one year—and it’s still there, and it’s the ugliest—I feel like it was inspired by a Tim Burton movie,” he began, going on to say, “It’s a little jewelry box, but it’s this kind of weird angle—it is like a little dresser and the drawers pull out. And it’s still there, and it’s filled with all her jewelry,” he says.
“Every time I come in [her house]I said, ‘Oh man, that’s bad,'” he said.
Despite that, Campbell says he’s still “very proud” of the gift, which he says he made when he was 13 or 14. “The macaroni necklace was right next to that,” he jokes, while also sharing with PEOPLE that as a child he used to handcraft a gift for his mom every Christmas.
These days, Campbell is preoccupied with making special childhood memories with his own son, Kingston, who he shares with wife Lorie Metz. The Falling Together star tells PEOPLE she likes to spend as much time as possible with her 8-year-old boy. “It brings me comfort and joy. I give him a little hug and it grounds me,” he notes.
When it comes to parenting, Campbell says she “learns something new every day.”

The siblings also deal with their complicated feelings about their mother starting a new romantic relationship. “In true Brenner brother style, they’re all in for a Christmas they’ll never forget,” according to the film’s official synopsis.
“People seem excited about the other one,” Campbell tells PEOPLE. “Let’s hope we can live up to that. We’re definitely bringing the nonsense.”
