Timothée Chalamet’s Bold Pink Suit and Custom Cartier Necklace at Wonka Premiere Are a Stylish Treat

Timothée Chalamet made a sweet appearance on the red carpet for Wonka world premiere in London.

The 27-year-old actor — who stars in the film (out Dec. 15) as Willy Wonka — commanded attention in a colorful Tom Ford suit (pulled from the Spring/Summer 2024 womenswear collection) that was traditionally tailored, yet daring in its magenta color. Bonus: the designer item looked like a modern model of Wonka’s original purple coat.

Chalamet also revealed a hint of skin, opting to wear nothing underneath the jacket and completing the look with square-toed Chelsea boots in a matching shade of chocolate brown.

The bling around his neck came courtesy of Cartier, who designed a custom necklace made up of 964 emeralds, rubellites, pink tourmalines and blue opals and a white gold base made up of nearly 1,000 gemstones, according to British Vogue. It also took 450 hours to make.

Chalamet, who is an ambassador for the jeweler, worked with Marie-Laure Cérède, creative director of jewelry and watchmaking, on a fashion accessory that, he noted British Vogue, it was made to fit the contour of his throat exactly. “It’s more than anything I could have dreamed of,” he told the newspaper.

Tuesday’s premiere, held at the Royal Festival Hall, won’t be the last time fans get to see Chalamet’s dazzling necklace. The unique piece will go through jewelry exhibitions around the world as part of the Cartier collection.

Chalamet stopped on the carpet to open up about the making of the film, which serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s book. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the challenges that came with it.

“The challenges were just living and loving the tone of it,” he told PEOPLE while speaking to a group of reporters. “I realized everything I worked on [has had a] down-to-earth seriousness, and here I got to relax and play, like in high school, but I hadn’t worked in 10 years or so. So it was a learning curve. But when it was in full swing, then it seemed like we were cooking.’ ”

Chalamet always lives up to his tailoring choices, and while some will say he breaks the rules when it comes to fashion, the trendsetter himself doesn’t really follow any “rules,” as he explained to British Vogue.

Earlier in Wonka on the press tour at the film’s Tokyo premiere, the Oscar nominee wore a custom leather Prada top and pants in a vivid lilac shade. He added another sparkly Cartier necklace and white boots.

Even his airport fashion has reached a new level of cool. Days before the event, Chalamet turned Japan’s Narita International Airport into his own catwalk as he greeted fans in an all-black edition of a floor-length collared coat. And we bet Chalamet’s ensemble would have been approved of — and maybe even styled by — his current flame Kylie Jenner, who modeled her own black faux leather jacket from her Khy brand in October.
