She was pronounced dead after arriving at Doctor Negrin Hospital in Gran Canaria’s capital Las Palmas last night.
Rumor has it that a woman’s leg was bitten off by a shark while she was on a catamaran near the coast of the Western Sahara.
The catamaran was named the British-flagged Dalliance Chichester, which left the Canaries on September 14.
The Spanish Coast Guard reportedly notified the British Coast Guard of the origin of the catamaran.
According to local reports, Moroccan authorities refused to transfer the injured woman to Rabat for emergency medical treatment.
An unnamed woman was pronounced dead shortly after 11pm yesterday after suffering a cardiac arrest in a Spanish military helicopter.
It is assumed that the shark attack happened around 4 pm on the same day.
The catamaran was said to have dispatched a Mayday at around 3.55pm yesterday.
The Spanish Coast Guard responded by warning nearby vessels of the emergency.
One eventually approached the Dalliance Chichester to give other crew members medicine for the injured woman.
The injured woman boarded the Spanish Air Force helicopter shortly after 8 p.m.
It was not immediately clear tonight how the attack took place.
There have been no documented previous shark attacks in the area where yesterday’s incident took place.
Dalliance Chichester is a 17 meter long and eight meter wide pleasure yacht.
