Jennifer Lopez is not the only familiar face in her new This is me… now: a love story An Amazon Original Movie!

The star’s ambitious new project — set to accompany her new album of the same name — features a host of familiar faces in fun cameos, including everyone from husband Ben Affleck to longtime pals like Fat Joe and Jane Fonda.

Many A-list stars appear as members of the so-called Zodiac Love Council, an astrologically inspired group that meets to dissect Lopez’s love life.

“It was weird getting there because we shot them one at a time over three months and the script changed 50 times,” director Dave Meyers tells PEOPLE. “We have a lot of fun [them]but they actually serve the story — the character Jen is going through something, and they’re kind of a voice checking how people feel about these steps of her journey.”

Meyers says wrangling the star-studded group proved difficult and ultimately came down to planning. Then there was the question of how to incorporate them into the out-of-the-box concept.

“Most of them were like, ‘What the hell are we doing?’ So it was a lot of fun,” he says. “Fun and scary.”

Meyers of Lopez, who he first worked with in the early 2000s on her music videos, adds, “The film kind of captures what I was surprised about, which is that she’s vulnerable. She is a real human being. She may have been in a castle on a hill with a charming prince, but it was hard earned and it was no mere coincidence or luck. She is the beautiful, three-dimensional graceful Gatsby of our age. There aren’t that many people I’ve ever met who can carry all that. She really is everything you think she is.”

Lopez married the Oscar-winning star in 2022, and in the film he appears first as a mysterious lover (his face is never shown) and then as an announcer named Rex Stone.

“One of the first thoughts I played with [with] The thing was that we had Ben playing a lot of characters, but always in disguise, so it was like he was always there,” says Meyers, who notes that the concept came from the idea of ​​Affleck being present in Lopez’s life in for the past few decades, even when they weren’t together. “The budget was cut and one thing led to another and he became just one character. And we spread it throughout the film as that kind of ever-present energy.”

The comedian appears as a member of the zodiac council, joking with the rest of the group as a Libra as they discuss Lopez’s romantic antics.

“It was a random call where your phone rings and it’s Jennifer Lopez and you’re like, ‘This has got to be a joke,'” he told PEOPLE last month. “And she wants you to come and make a cameo in her visual experience, and you’re like, ‘Wow. I mean, I don’t know what I’m doing, but OK, I’ll join.’”

Noah added that he didn’t know exactly what to expect from the finished product, as the whole thing was “very secretive,” but he enjoyed his time on set.

“There’s just a fun collection of people who have come together to celebrate an icon and someone who, across genres, has really just paved his own path,” he said. “It was a lot of fun.”

The “Lean Back” rapper appears throughout the film as Lopez’s therapist.

They’re a couple from the past as they’re both from the Bronx and collaborated on Lopez’s 2005 single “Hold You Down” (She returned the favor in 2014 by appearing on his song “Stressin.”)

The legendary actress joins Noah in the zodiac council, playing Sagittarius.

Lopez and Fonda first became friends in 2005, when they starred in a movie together Monsterand it was Fonda who introduced the “Can’t Get Enough” singer when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.

In the film, Lopez learns the hard way that the third time is not the charm when it comes to marriage. Hough plays one of three husbands in a wacky, whirlwind wedding sequence.

“The fact that he had to learn my style [of dance], which is a hip-hop vibe, which he quickly picked up along the way,” choreographer Luther Brown tells PEOPLE. “He was in it. When it comes to their solo that they do together, he brings his magic to it.”
