Two teenagers killed and three left fighting for lives after head-on crash just hours into New Years Day

TWO teenagers have died and three others are fighting for their lives after a head-on collision in the early hours of the morning.

Humberside Police said the horrific crash happened at 1.20am on January 1 in Preston, near Hull.

A gray Volkswagen Golf collided with a Vauxhall Grandland traveling from the opposite direction.

Two passengers in the Golf, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, tragically died from their injuries.

Police said the other two passengers, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, suffered “life-threatening injuries.”

Both were rushed to the hospital.

The driver escaped the accident with minor injuries.

The woman (34) who was driving the Grandland suffered a serious hand injury.

In the meantime, two more passengers received minor injuries.

In the terrible impact, a 62-year-old man in another vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries.

The victims of the horrific crash have not yet been identified, but officers said their families have been informed and are being “assisted by specially trained officers”.

The spokesman also appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time and anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact them.

Police said in a statement: “Officers are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Preston, Hull, in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, January 1).

“A gray Volkswagen Golf was traveling along Staithes Road from Preston when it collided with a black Vauxhall Grandland which was traveling towards Preston at around 1.20am.

“The ambulance arrived, but the two passengers from the Volkswagen Golf died.

“The teenager, aged 16, was pronounced dead at the scene, the male, aged 18, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died a short time later.

“Two other passengers, a 16-year-old teenage girl and a 17-year-old boy, suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver suffered minor injuries.

“The passenger of the Vauxhall Grandland, a man, aged 62, suffered life-threatening injuries, as did the driver, a woman, aged 34, who suffered a serious hand injury.

“They were also transported to the hospital for treatment, and two other passengers received minor injuries.

“Their families have been informed and are currently being assisted by specialist officers at this extremely difficult time.

“We would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the collision, who has dashcam footage or witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to us, to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 60 of January 1.”
