Facts/Trivia

  • Ustad Hamid Ali believes that the popularity of classical music and album releases is declining day by day. In 2017, he released an album titled Dil Tau Kehta Hai after six years, which included classical music genres such as raag and thumris. He also hopes that other singers will also release albums to keep the country’s culture and heritage alive. He said in an interview,

I have to ensure the legacy of my family, which is why I will continue to release more albums in the coming years,” he said, adding, “I will do my best to protect our culture and heritage. ”

  • In an interview, Hamid narrated the reasons behind the tradition of duet singing in Patiala Gharana. He explained,

Our ancestors invented this method of singing in pairs so that the next generation would always be united. Therefore, although both have full vocal range, in public performances one will be responsible for the durat (fast tempo) and the other will be responsible for the alap (the improvised part of the ragas). There are thousands of ragas in music and it is very important for every trained classical singer to have a wide vocal range but our gharana is especially good at Malkuns, Darbari, Adana (Adana), Des, Bhopali and Multani, some of which are sung in the morning and some in the morning. evenings and some nights,”

  • In an interview with Vasi Shah TV Channel, he recalled a visit to India and said he was praised by former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said he was asked to stay in India for a while and be offered various facilities in return, but the singer rejected the offer and said he only wanted to perform for his country. He said,

I am Pakistani and I will only serve my country. ”

  • Ustad Hamid Ali Khan suggested naming his sons’ band “Raga Boyz”. The reason for this title is because the traditional melody framework “Raag” in Indian music is called “Raga” in Western countries, and the band’s singing style is a fusion of Western pop music and traditional Indian classical music. Therefore, he felt that this title would best suit his sons’ band.
  • In 2014, Pearl Continental Hotel Rawalpin collaborated with FM Productions to organize a ‘Salute to Patiala Gharana’ event, in which three generations of Patiala Gharana, namely Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Hamid Ali Khan and Raga Boys performed Acting together for the first time.
