Valerie Bertinelli is proud of her body.
In a preview clip of her appearance on the Friday, December 13 episode The Drew Barrymore ShowBertinelli, 64, discussed the response she received to her viral bikini mirror selfie.
When asked by co-host Ross Matthews why she decided to share the selfie, Bertinelli replied: “Well, you know what, now I’ve come to terms with my body, the old one, and I’ve seen myself in the light and gone, ‘Oh, I’m not mad about it.’ ”
The Food Network alum then stood up and lifted her red sweater to reveal her stomach as Barrymore, 49, clapped.
“Like all those, you know, planks and crunches I’ve been doing, you can see under the loose skin,” she joked. “But I have to say… that’s 64 years of gravity. It’s science. If you focus on that picture you will see the little ones hanging and I am proud of them because I am 64 years old. It’s the belly.”

Bertinelli went on to talk about how people criticized her body and appearance, telling her she was too thin or overweight.
“Why, why, why? And there are so many people, ‘You’re too thin, too fat, you’re out of shape. You’re in shape. my god I want those abs. Oh my god, you’re ugly.’ What I learned was that my dad was wrong. You can’t make everyone love you. And I agree with that, finally at this age.”
“I don’t like that I was part of this manipulation of our brains that we have to look a certain way. We have to be a certain weight,” she continued, adding that she has now learned to accept her body. “I’m a size 10. How is that too thin? I’m a size 10. How is that too fat? I’m just me. It’s my body.”
On December 3, Bertinelli posted her viral selfie and opened up about accepting her body after a tough year.
“At some point I’m going to talk about the craziness my body has been through this year. But right now, every lump, bump, wrinkle, and sagging part of me just feels acceptance and simple appreciation that I’m standing in front of a mirror in a midtown Manhattan hotel bathroom ready to color my roots late Monday night,” she wrote in the text. photo.

A day later, the “Drew Crew” member responded to social media users who criticized the photo.
“To all of you who would judge my body, the photo and why I posted it, I hope you find a place in your heart to not judge yourself as harshly as you judge others,” she wrote alongside a series of new mirror selfies on Instagram.
“I’ve dealt with judgment all my life, starting at a young age,” she continued. “It took me a long time to realize that my judgment, with patient discernment, is the only judgment that counts.”

“… It took me almost 3 years of emotional work to get to this point mentally, and for the first eight months of this year I had physical problems,” she said, adding that “for the first time in my life, I love my body the way it is.”
“It’s not the 20-year-old body that I hated and it’s a shame that I hated that beautiful body. Yes, it was a very different body than the one I live in now, but the journey I needed to take had not yet passed,” she added.
“No matter how challenging it was and is, I am grateful for this journey and I wouldn’t trade this body for my 20-year-old body for a day. Ever,” she concluded, signing off with “XO Valerie” and a peace and heart emoji.
