Vijay Babu is an Indian actor, film producer and businessman working in the Malayalam film industry. He is known for his role as Padmachandran aka Pappan in the Malayalam film Philips and the Monkey Circle (2013). He is also known for producing the Malayalam films Philip and Monkey Pen (2013), Peruchazhi (2014) and Aadu (2015).

Vijay Babu started his media career with Star India in Mumbai. While working there, he was awarded the title of “Star TV’s Best Employee” in 2002. He worked there for a while and then moved to Dubai where he established his own business. After a few years, Vijay returned to India and started working as COO of Asianet and Sitara TV in Hyderabad. In 2009, he moved to Kerala and became the Vice President of Surya TV.
In 2013, Vijay quit the media career and started working as an actor and producer in the Malayalam film industry. Vijay made his debut as a film producer with the Malayalam film Zachariayude Garbhinikal (2013). He went on to produce films like Philips and the Monkey Pen (2013), Peruchazhi (2014), Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeevi Aanu (2015), Aadu 2 (2017) and Thrissur Pooram (2019) . ).

accused of sexual assault
On April 26, 2022, a sexual assault case was registered against Vijay Babu by an actress at the Ernakulam South police station. In her complaint, she alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Vijay on multiple occasions in an apartment in Kochi on the pretext of being offered a film role. Vijay reportedly went into hiding soon after the news broke. Following this, another case was registered against Vijay for leaking the identity of the complainant through Facebook. Later, Vijay approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the rape case. In his anticipatory bail plea, he alleged that the actor who had lodged a complaint against him was trying to blackmail him. She approached him about film opportunities. He also claimed that even after their partnership ended, she continued to stay in contact and eventually became closer to him, even though she knew he was married and had a family. He also added that he was ready to produce the messages and photos exchanged between the two, but the Kerala High Court refused to entertain his plea. Later, another woman accused Vijay of harassment. She claimed that during a work-related meeting, Vijay tried to kiss her even though they had only known each other for 20 to 30 minutes. She said the incident shocked her and she stayed away from the film industry. she says,
He was drinking and passed the drink to me. I declined and continued working. Suddenly, he just leaned forward and kissed me on the lips, without any question, without any consent. Fortunately, my reaction speed was very fast. I took a step back and kept a certain distance from him. I looked at his face and he asked me: Just a kiss? “
Vijay has resigned from the executive committee of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) amid controversy and said he will stay away from the organization’s executive committee until proven innocent in the sexual assault case to save the association from “shame”. He sent a formal letter to AMMA, which stated:
Vijay Babu wrote that he did not want to bring shame to the organization where he serves as a member of the executive committee amid the allegations against him. He will be temporarily removed from the Executive Committee until his innocence is proven. His letter (request) was discussed by AMMA and approved. ”
