Welcome to Plathville’s Olivia and Ethan Plath Talk ‘Make-It-or-Break-It’ Move to Minnesota Amid Family Drama

Ethan and Olivia Plath are ready to put family drama behind them and embrace an exciting new chapter in their marriage.

On Tuesday’s episode of TLC Welcome to Plathville, Ethan and Olivia, both 25 years old, are preparing to finally move from Tampa, Florida to Minnesota. Their new home will be near Ethan’s grandparents (his father Barry Plath’s parents), which they both expressed their delight about.

“My grandparents love [Olivia] so much,” Ethan admired in the interview.

“From day one of our marriage, they’ve been people who have considered me family, who have been there for Ethan and me,” Olivia added of his grandparents. “And we felt that all the time, but when it’s, you know, 1,000 miles away, it’s just not the same as experiencing it day in and day out.”

“I think it’s going to be a really big make-or-break thing,” she added.

She also noted that she thinks Minnesota will be a “supportive” environment for their marriage amid all the recent conflict with Ethan’s parents and siblings.

As they celebrated their four-year wedding anniversary, the couple faced ongoing disagreements with Ethan’s sister — and Olivia’s former best friend — Moriah, 21. After falling out with Olivia, Moriah moved out of their shared home and cut off contact with her brother and sister-in-law. She even went so far as to block Ethan on her phone and social media.

Aside from the drama with Moriah, Olivia had a rocky relationship with both of Plath’s parents. She and Ethan’s mother, Kim (51), haven’t spoken in years. In the season premiere, Barry, 55, also accused Olivia of “brainwashing” Ethan.

“There’s a part of me that misses the relationships we used to have,” Olivia admitted as she reflected on their upcoming move. “But I don’t know if those relationships will ever be the same again. It’s like the end of a chapter in our lives.”

Ethan was optimistic about their decision to move. He said he believed that by running away from his immediate family, there would finally be “less negative impact” on his and Olivia’s marriage.

“I expect that moving to Minnesota will be really beneficial for me and Olivia and our relationship,” he said in a confessional interview.

Later in the episode, Ethan and Olivia threw a farewell party the night before they hit the road. The guest list at the party included several of their friends and Olivia’s brother Nathan, but none of the Plath siblings.

Ethan did not say goodbye to any member of his family except his sister Lydia (19). Eldest son Plath, who previously admitted he felt “caught in the middle” between his wife and family members, said he left without patching things up with Moriah: “It is what it is.”

When the producer asked Olivia where she was now with the Plath family, she refused to answer. Instead, she explained that she decided to focus on the “positive things” in her life.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” she replied. “I haven’t worked it out. I still feel, you know, hurt and angry inside, but I also see that the positives aren’t caught up in all of that. It’s easy to find the silver lining and say, ‘Okay well then, that’s a space in my life for more things.'”

Ethan and Olivia, who married in 2018 and celebrated their four-year wedding anniversary in last week’s episode, have faced many ups and downs in their relationship over the years. They recently struggled with living apart for two and a half months while Ethan finished working on his cars in Georgia.

Olivia moved out of their shared home for a while in 2021. However, the couple seemed to patch things up until September 2022 when Ethan shared a sweet photo of the two on Instagram, captioning it: “When high school sweethearts find each other, there’s not much of what can tear us apart.”

Olivia also tried to shut down rumors about their marriage. In June 2023, she responded directly in the comments section of an Instagram post claiming that she and Ethan were headed for divorce.

“There’s a lot of speculation, but if Ethan and I had something to share, we would,” she wrote at the time.
