Who Is Ashley Tisdale’s Husband? All About Christopher French

Ashley Tisdale had a whirlwind romance with her husband Christopher French.

The High school musical the cast member and the musician got engaged in 2013 atop the Empire State Building after dating for eight months. Tisdale and French married the following year in an intimate ceremony, where former co-star Vanessa Hudgens was a bridesmaid.

Almost a decade after their marriage, the couple collaborated on music, worked together on the wellness brand Frenshe and had a daughter, Jupiter.

In 2022, Tisdale announced her return to acting with an upcoming CBS comedy Brutally honest — somewhat inspired by how her relationship with French developed after having a child.

“The last few years have been so creative and inspiring,” she told PEOPLE. “My daughter inspires so much of everything that happens in my life. And my relationship really inspired this show, so I’m so excited.”

Tisdale and French first stepped out as a couple in Los Angeles in December 2012.

After keeping their relationship a secret for several months, the actress and musician attended the crime comedy premiere Spring Breakers in March 2013

Around this time, Tisdale was promoting her upcoming film Scary Movie 5 when she spoke to host Ryan Seacrest about why her romance with French was different from her previous experiences.

“Obviously I’ve been in long relationships in the past. But I think because I knew what I wanted, I wouldn’t have gotten into a relationship if it wasn’t what I wanted,” she said. On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

“I thought, ‘OK, that’s the guy,’ and he knew the same thing. It couldn’t be better. I just can’t explain it,” Tisdale added.

On August 8, 2013, French proposed to Tisdale atop the Empire State Building in New York, PEOPLE confirmed.

“The best night of my life. We’re on top of the world.” Zack and Cody’s apartment life alum published on X (formerly known as Twitter) that same night.

In an Instagram post to mark their sixth wedding anniversary in 2020, Tisdale reflected on her emotions when they started dating.

“I remember being so scared as soon as we got together because I couldn’t believe how well you treated me,” she wrote. “I’ve never been treated like that. But I let go and trusted my heart and 8 months later we were a couple of crazy engaged kids.”

He is a musician

Tisdale and French share a mutual love of music. He began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager, according to his website. French continued to record and tour with alternative rock bands The Why Game and Annie Automatic — in which he was the lead singer when he met Tisdale.

After attending the Musician’s Institute for Recording in LA, he graduated from Berklee College of Music in film score and orchestration. Since then, he has expanded his portfolio and recorded music for various shows, films and documentaries.

He worked as a composer on the animated series DC Comics Harley QuinnPrime Video anthology Modern lovemovie Acidman and HBO documentary series On tour with Asperger’s Are Us.

They got married in 2014

On September 8, 2014, Tisdale and French tied the knot, PEOPLE confirmed.

“The best day of my life! Introducing Mr. and Mrs. French on September 8, 2014,” the actress posted on Instagram alongside a wedding photo of her and the musician holding hands.

Their wedding took place at Villa Sevillano in Santa Barbara, California, and former actress Hudgens was part of her bridal party. The bohemian outdoor wedding took place on a particularly meaningful day for Tisdale and French.

“The eighth was our anniversary, so I wanted to land on the 8th, and luckily it landed on a Monday in September,” she said. On Air with Ryan Seacrestadding that he also hopes the work event will help “protect” the privacy of their intimate celebration.

Soon after, she shared with CBS News how she was “very excited” and “happy” after getting married. The Hellcats star revealed that the next step in their relationship didn’t feel any different because “I married my best friend.”

“I felt like I was married before or something – I guess because we act like that. It’s definitely an amazing feeling,” she said. “This relationship has definitely been unlike any other relationship I’ve ever had… Nothing is forced. It’s the best feeling ever.”

On March 23, 2021, Tisdale and French welcomed their daughter, Jupiter Iris French.

The actress announced the news on Instagram with a black and white photo of her holding the baby’s hand. “Jupiter Iris French arrived on Earth 3.23.21. ✨,” she wrote.

Tisdale and French first revealed they were expecting in September 2020 when they posted photos of her baby bump. The following month, the couple held a sex reveal party and found out they were having a baby girl.

“I cried, I was so happy,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

Since giving birth, the “It’s Okay, It’s Okay” singer has been sharing moments of her family on social media, including what it was like watching Jupiter grow up.

“He definitely looks like my husband, but he’s definitely my personality,” she told PEOPLE in 2023. “Just her facial expressions and the way she says things and it’s just those little things.”

They worked together on music

The same year that Tisdale and French got engaged, the pair collaborated on the single “You’re Always Here,” which was dedicated to her late grandfather, Arnold, who died that September.

She opened up to MTV about wanting “everyone to know who he is and how special he is to me” and how the writing process unfolded. Tisdale would go for a walk and come back with sheet music as if the two were talking, and French would start writing chords.

“We just decided to make a song out of what I was going through; it just happened organically,” she said. “[My grandfather] I’ve always loved my music and loved it when I sang.”

When French met Tisdale, he wasn’t looking high school musical, the 2006 Disney Channel Original Movie that launched the actress to stardom. In fact, he watched the film and its sequels for the first time in 2019 — and Tisdale documented the events on her Instagram Story.

“Does anyone know what this is?” Tisdale teased with a clip from High school musical 2. “I’m making my husband watch it. He never saw any of them.”

Throughout his private viewing party, she continued to tease him on social media, asking him, “Would you go out with me?” and “Sharpay not your type honey?”

As for showing Jupiter her past acting roles, Tisdale revealed to PEOPLE that it wasn’t at the top of her list. “It feels like a different life!” she said.
