Who Is Catherine O'Hara's Husband? All About Bo Welch

Catherine O’Hara can thank Tim Burton for her successful marriage.

Welch is an Oscar- and Emmy-nominated production designer best known for his work on Edward Scissorhands, Men in black and Little princess. He grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in Below the Line, and got his big break as a production designer in 1985. Purple. His work on the film earned him the first of four Oscar nominations.

Welch made his directorial debut in 2003 with The cat in the hat. He also directed five episodes A series of unfortunate events, the same series that earned him his first Primetime Emmy nomination. He additionally created the production design for Batman returns, Schmigadoon! and Thor.

Welch and O’Hara met while she was acting bug juice as Delia Deetz. Tim Burton hired Welch to work on the production design of the film, which at the time was the second film he had ever worked on.

“It was just exciting at that point in my career. Another movie and that’s it. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Welch told UPROXX. “It didn’t have the pressure of the third episode of a franchise movie. So that was all great.”

His memories of work bug juice they are all positive, especially since he met O’Hara during the process.

“My memories of bug juice they really like them, of course,” he added. “Not to mention, I met my wife, who was in it.”

While working on the film, Burton learned that O’Hara had fallen in love with Welch. Burton helped the pair bond by organizing a trip to exchange meetings with the film’s art department, according to PEOPLE.

“I was ranting to Tim Burton about how this guy talked to me all the time and never asked me out,” O’Hara recalled. In style 2018. “We had a break between shooting in Los Angeles and on location, and that’s when Tim told Bo that he should ask me out.”

After meeting Welch on the set bug juiceO’Hara was delighted. The couple started dating after filming ended. O’Hara admitted The New Yorker 2019, after which she moved to LA bug juice to be with Welch.

“I was inside bug juiceand the production designer, Bo Welch, was very attractive, and he finally asked me out,” she said. “We went to the location at the end of the movie and started dating. I moved to LA to be with him. Yes, I moved for love.”

O’Hara and Welch were married on April 25, 1992.

They share two sons

O’Hara and Welch are the parents of two sons together, Matthew and Luke. Two years after they married, they welcomed Matthew in 1994. Luke was born about three years later, in 1997. While Matthew and Luke grew up in Canada, they followed in their parents’ footsteps and got jobs in Hollywood.

During their adolescence, Matthew and Luke were very creative children.

“Matthew and Luke… They’re very funny and we encourage that,” O’Hara told Toronto Star 2007. “The older one does Warners cartoons, really old-fashioned, cheaply funny vaudeville stuff. And the little one plays with words.”

Matthew and Luke broke into the entertainment industry and worked in decoration and construction. They also worked with O’Hara during her time there Schitt’s Creek.

O’Hara told PEOPLE that she once had her brief Alone in the house moment with his two sons in New York on the subway.

“Once we were in New York; I think it was New York. Bo and I entered the subway, we turned around, the door was closing, but it wasn’t on,” she said. “I screamed and people screamed with me. Everyone joined in.”

Fortunately, Matthew and Luke managed to get on the train and were not separated from their parents. “It makes me sick to think what could have happened,” O’Hara added.

At the 2021 Golden Globe Awards, O’Hara won Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy for her work in Schitt’s Creek. Since the award ceremony was held at the height of the pandemic, she gave her acceptance speech virtually with her husband by her side.

As she spoke, Welch played the sound of the crowd clapping. As he neared the end of his speech, he played the music to signal O’Hara to finish. “Seriously?” she then jokingly told Welch.

He and O’Hara had an interesting visit to the Vatican as newlyweds

After O’Hara and Welch were married, Burton gave them tickets for a private tour of the Vatican.

“It was a very internal deal,” O’Hara said The Kelly Clarkson Show.

During the journey, the priest who led them was reprimanded.

“Okay, the priest took us around — at one point they were yelling at him,” O’Hara recalled. “I wish I could have spoken Italian, but he was definitely yelled at by another priest because we were in the Pope’s closet, looking at clothes and such. It was crazy.”

Everything was fine for O’Hara and Welch, and they ended the tour in a mini-museum where gifts to the Vatican are kept. “And this priest just lets us open the boxes and pretends to put the crown in Bo’s backpack, taking pictures,” she added.

He supported O’Hara at the Venice Film Festival

In August 2024, Welch joined O’Hara at the Venice Film Festival for the film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premiere. The actress turned heads in a gothic-inspired dress by Oscar de la Renta, while Welch complemented his wife in a classic black suit.
