Deanna was already a mother to son Griffin and daughter Hannah, both from previous relationships, when she met the singer. The couple met at a party in North Carolina when Chris was 20 years old.

Deanna recalled meeting her husband in an Instagram post to mark their 18th wedding anniversary in 2018. She wrote: “When we got married 18 years ago, I had no idea where it would take us. I thought about it… you’re seven years younger than me, you live with your parents, you sell vacuum cleaners. I was a single mother of two who had just started my own business and was very broken about my childhood and past relationships. Neither of us learned how to do any of this properly, but we were both committed to standing by each other and getting through it all together.”

Deanna’s late daughter had children of her own. According to Hey! online, Hannah was the mother of a son named Liam and a daughter named Lily. On her Instagram, Hannah once said that her mother is the reason her children have “the best lives I can give them.”

In 2019, the couple revealed to PEOPLE that Chris had been unfaithful to Deanna shortly after he became a star. “I looked back and had no idea who I was,” Chris said, noting that the tours that kept him on the road for months were “just a recipe for relationship disaster.” He said, “There was unbelief.”

Deanna told PEOPLE that she knows it “really has nothing to do” with her. According to her, Chris was “drowning in the things he was dealing with, and I was drowning in the things I was dealing with. We both had to learn to save ourselves.”
