Who Is Dwight Yoakam's Wife? All About Emily Joyce

Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce have been together for many years.

In May 2020, the couple announced in a post that they were married. They also revealed that they started dating in 2010 and were engaged for several years.

“Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce were married in March just before the quarantine in a private ceremony at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica,” the musician’s rep confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. “At a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world, there are still happy moments.”

The couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in Santa Monica, California, in front of fewer than 10 attendees who all sat at least six feet apart.

Yoakam took to Instagram with the post to share two photos of himself with his bride on their wedding day.

She is a photographer

Although little information is known about Joyce’s profession as a photographer, she held an exhibition of her work at The Salon in Los Angeles in 2016. She has also photographed Yoakam on various occasions, and some of the photos have been shared on social media.

Yoakam shared a birthday tribute to Joyce in November 2019 with a sweet message as well as a photo of Joyce with her camera.

“Happy Birthday Emily!! Thank you for the love and joy you bring to my life,” he wrote in the caption. “I love you because you selflessly share a space in my life that is not always easy to be in. Love Dwight.”

She’s a mom

Yoakam and Joyce welcomed their first child together, son Dalton Loren, in August 2020. His birth was announced by the singer’s team on Instagram with photos of a pregnant Joyce and Yoakam on their way to the hospital.

“As the lyrics from the song Waterfall that Dwight wrote for Emily on his album 3 Pears says… Babies are born even in… pandemic lockdown…” the statement read. “It is with great joy and happiness that Dwight and Emily announce the birth of their new baby boy this Sunday.”

Yoakam shared a video of Dalton dancing to his music on Instagram in a sweet Instagram post for Mother’s Day in May 2022.

Yoakam and Joyce kept their relationship a secret

Although the couple has kept their relationship out of the headlines, they have been making public appearances together for years.

They were spotted attending the 2019 fair GQ Men of the Year After Party in December 2019, as well as the 67th Annual BMI Country Awards in November 2019 and the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2017.

Yoakam and Joyce postponed their wedding announcement

While the couple tied the knot in March 2020, they waited to make the official announcement until May 2020 due to sensitivities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This belated announcement has been withheld out of respect for so many people affected by this pandemic and on the front lines,” the couple said in a post.

Yoakam and Joyce live in the Hollywood Hills

In 2012, Yoakam told PEOPLE about his unique home in the Hollywood Hills, which he described as a sunny, art-filled Spanish Colonial home with “Mediterranean vernacular.”

“I picked out every hinge on the door, every piece of tile, every lamp,” he said. “I was here every day during construction. It was my workplace.”

At the time, he also noted that it was where he wrote his album, 3 pearsand Joyce was in his life.

“My artwork kind of oscillates around me as I write songs,” he explained. “There’s a bit of musical madness in this record. It’s about having fun and rediscovering love,” adding that he was “very happy” in his then year-and-a-half relationship with Joyce.

“Love is something we have to look for within ourselves every day,” Yoakam concluded.

Their home base is quite different from Joyce’s roots, which hail from Omaha, Nebraska. Similarly, Yoakam was born in Kentucky and raised in Ohio.

She documents Dwight’s radio show
