Earl “the Pearl” Strickland is a famous pool player from the United States who is widely regarded as one of the best players in the nine ball league. He won more than 100 events and holds the record for longest pool run in history (408 yards).
He was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America’s Honor Society in 2006. He is also known as one of the most divisive players in the sport due to his outspoken opinions and often erratic behavior on court.

Earl Strickland started playing pool at the age of nine. Furthermore, his father accompanied him to billiards. Earl spent a lot of time practicing during his childhood as he fell in love with the game. Earl began playing pool seriously after his family moved to Houston, Texas, where he began beating several other players. In order to hide his talent from the rest of the Western world, he competed only in small competitions and avoided professionals.
Earl was also beating the best players in his town at the age of 11. Meanwhile, Earl the Pearl dropped out of high school in the tenth grade and immediately started playing pool. Earl finally won a commercial pool tournament when he was 19 years old. He learned his techniques primarily from fellow pool players such as Willie Mosconi, Steve Mizerak and Mike Massey. Strickland started playing pool when he was eight years old. After a long period of preparation, he competed in his first professional competition at the age of 16. After winning at Lake Tahoe in 1983, Strickland gained national attention. According to sources, Strickland performed “like a cut gem.” He was becoming a huge force on the competitive circuit and was considered by many to be a potential world champion.
He described himself as having “championship skill, endurance, discipline, temperament and perseverance.” Strickland was also named the National Pool News Player of the Year in 1984 for his ability and talent. Because of Strickland’s exceptional shooting ability and unpredictable nature, veteran Grady Mathews notes, “There’s a lull and then there’s anticipation.”

Earl Strickland won 58 championships in his career. Earl, the Pearl, was nominated for the Billards Digest Player Award in 1985, 1987 and 1988. Furthermore, the world-class pool player has six world championships.
Earl, on the other hand, has two world championships under his belt: the WPA World Pool Championship and the WPA World Nine-Ball Championship. Similarly, the pool player is the only person to win two consecutive WPA World Nine-Ball Championships (1990, 1991). Earl won the World Pool Masters in 1997 and added another WPA title to his collection by 2002.
