Biography of Gordon Lightfoot
Gordon Lightfoot was born on November 17, 1938 in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. Gordon Lightfoot Sr. and Jessie Trill Lightfoot are Lightfoot’s parents. Gordon was employed by a local dry claim company. Beverley Lightfoot is Lightfoot’s sister. His mother recognized his talent at a young age. He appeared in the show Too Ra Loo Rai in the fourth grade. Gordon was a member of the choir of Orillia’s Paul’s United Church.
He won a competition for boys when he was only twelve years old. The singer teaches himself to play piano and drums. Lightfoot performs in Muskoka, Orillia’s summer resort. In addition to singing, Lightfoot was an athlete who competed in the shot put, pole vault and soccer. Gordon received scholarships from the School of Music at McGill University and the University of Toronto.
In 1958, the artist entered the Westlake College of Music. Gordon worked on jingles and detriments to support himself during his studies. He returned to Toronto in 1960.
