Philip was born on March 11, 1971 to Philip Clapp Sr. and Lemoyne Clapp in Knoxville, Tennessee. He left South-Young High School in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree and moved to California to begin his acting career. John married Melanie Lynn Cates in 1995. Madison, their daughter, was born in 1996. Their union, however, did not last as Knoxville himself filed for divorce in 2007. Knoxville and his girlfriend, Naomi Nelson, announced their pregnancy publicly in 2009. In 2009, he gave birth to and their son Rocko Akira Clapp. Arlo Lemoyne Yoko was born in 2011 after the couple married in 2010.
