Who Is Kevin McCarthy’s Wife? All About Judy McCarthy

Kevin McCarthy has had his wife Judy McCarthy by his side since the beginning of his political career.

Kevin and Judy have been married for over 30 years and are the parents of two children, Connor and Meghan. While Judy mostly stayed out of the limelight, she supported her husband for years.

When he was elected House Majority Leader in 2014, Judy recounted California’s Bakersfield it was a “humbling” moment for their family.

“We didn’t take that lightly. In one day, your responsibilities are bigger, and that’s humbling,” Judy said. “But someone held that office before Kevin, and someone will after. Keep your family first and don’t look at this as a glamorous thing.”

She added: “You serve, the people chose you to be a servant, you must have a servant’s heart.”

After 15 rounds of voting, Kevin was elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives in January 2023, but was removed from that position nine months later. Democrats sided with Republicans in a historic 216-210 vote, stripping Kevin of his role.

Efforts to oust Kevin have been led by far-right Republicans who have been looking for reasons to remove him from office since he was elected.

So who is Kevin McCarthy’s wife? Here’s everything you need to know about Judy McCarthy and her relationship with the politician.

She’s from California

Judy grew up in Frazier Park, California, the youngest of four children. As of 2014, her parents still lived there.

“My dad is the perfect example of hard work,” Judy said California’s Bakersfield. “He worked for National Cement. I didn’t grow up rich, but we have a very close family, and my foundation of faith came from my mother.”

They were high school sweethearts

Judy and Kevin met when they were still students at Bakersfield High School — the same school their children would later attend. They were in biology class together when Kevin tried to court Judy, although her interests at the time were elsewhere.

“I actually liked one of his friends, but you know, Kevin’s personality gets you and he doesn’t give up,” Judy said in an interview with California’s Bakersfield.

The family never left Bakersfield entirely, continuing to own their home even when they moved to Washington, DC when Kevin began working for the federal government.

They got married in 1992

Three years after graduating from California State University, Bakersfield, Kevin married Judy on August 29, 1992. On their 23rd wedding anniversary, he posted a sweet tribute to his wife on Facebook.

“I fell in love many times… Always with you,” he wrote in the description. “Happy Anniversary to my awesome wife Judy!”

They have two children together

Shortly after their wedding, the couple had their first child together, son Connor McCarthy, in 1994. Two years later, Judy gave birth to their second child, a daughter named Meghan.

While Connor was a student at Georgetown University, Kevin invited him to some White House events, including the 2015 Japanese State Dinner as a reward for his diligence.

“I took him to dinner last night and I said, ‘I have something at the White House, do you want to go?’ “, he told The Hill at the time. “This is his last week of finals. I wanted to make sure he had all his homework.”

Six years later, Kevin announced that his son had gotten married. The former president posted Connor’s wedding video on his Instagram, sharing that he married the “love of his life” in December 2020.

“My son married the love of his life in December—and even though the wedding was small, the love we have for them couldn’t be bigger. ❤️”, he wrote in the description. “I’m very proud dad!”

When Meghan was young, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Judy shared with California’s Bakersfield how she used to drive south for her treatments.

“She’s had her battles, but she’s so strong, and we’re so happy,” Judy said.

Both Connor and Meghan showed support for their dad, cheering him on alongside Judy at the US Capitol when he was elected president.

She is religious

Judy said California’s Bakersfield that her favorite book is the Bible, and one of her most important roles is to be a Christian.

“God put it on my heart to help,” she said of the exit of what she sees as her “ministry.” “I am not a politician’s wife. I am my own person and a Christian.”

He volunteers at Ford’s Theater

For a decade, Judy sat on the board of the infamous Ford’s Theater — where former President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. She volunteers at the theater to keep the memory of Lincoln alive.

“Judy has a true passion for our mission to celebrate the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln. We are thrilled to have both her and Congressman McCarthy involved in our important work,” said Paul R. Tetreault, Ford Theater Company Director. California’s Bakersfield.

Judy and Kevin publicly showed their support for the venue, walking the red carpet for the 2019 Ford’s Theater Gala.
