One mum is sharing what she got her family for Christmas this year after it went viral for sharing what it was not on her list.
It all started when a mom named Jessica, who goes by the social media name @mooneyhamjessica, shared in a TikTok video that she went to Target on Dec. 23 and found men and their kids buying “crappy” last-minute gifts for their wives : candles, cheap jewelry and blankets.

“We don’t want that,” Jessica says in the video as she sits in her car. “You have 364/5 days to shop for us. Buy us what we want. I sent Kirk my wish list six weeks ago, thank God. If I don’t get something on that wish list and all I get are crappy candles and blankets from Target , I will lose my eternal sanity.”
“This mom has been creating magic for 12 f–king Christmases, so dads, come on, do better,” she continues. “It’s ridiculous the number of fathers out there buying crap for their wives.”

Speaking to PEOPLE about the video, Jessica recalls that when she saw all the fathers frantically shopping, her first thought was, “How sad for these women who are about to be disappointed not only by last-minute thoughtless gifts, but — what do they teach your children?”
“Those fathers bought the only gifts at the last minute,” she says. “You could tell these weren’t socks or just extra shopping; these were the presents. I spent months, like most moms, buying gifts and hiding in the back of my mind what people in my family wanted/needed. I spent hours wrapping, baking and getting the right clothes for Christmas morning, and at that point I was so infuriated that the men could have run away waiting for the last minute.”
“I know there are a million scenarios that someone could attack me with… but the truth is, moms have to lower their expectations every Christmas,” she continues. “I don’t want my sons to ever see their spouses as an ‘afterthought’ or for their spouses to have to ‘lower their expectations.’ ”

After posting about the moment at Target on TikTok, Jessica’s video went viral, garnering more than 812,000 views and 3,500 comments. TikTok users responded in the comments, sharing similar experiences.
“Mine are always from the checkout counter at TJ Maxx on the 24th. This year he’s getting divorced for Christmas. That’s right,” one user commented on the video.
“My husband buys gifts at the last minute but goes to Chanel… so he gets a pass from me 😅🤷🏽♀️,” another user wrote.
Someone else said, “The best gift I ever gave myself was teaching my young sons (9 and 7) how shop for people. It’s a constant process, but I don’t produce people who perpetuate this cycle.”
“When I saw it went viral, my first thought was that I wish I hadn’t said that like I was worried my husband would fail me because he’s an incredible giver. When people started calling me ungrateful or asking me to see what get, it made me realize how lucky I am,” says Jessica.
On December 25, after Christmas morning, Jessica returned to TikTok to share what she got from her family this holiday season. She received a candle from Ulta, purchased on Dec. 14, from her 9-year-old son, plus a St. Tropez sun lotion and Good Patches.
“Yes, my husband was one of those husbands who took my son shopping to get me gifts,” she says in the video. “Very different from the dads at Target who were picking out their only gifts, not socks, something extra. This is a very different feeling.”
“Also, every year I got socks from my husband,” she continues, adding that he bought her favorite chewing gums, sweets and other sweets.
Afterwards, Jessica showed off the rest of the gifts her family had bought her: the cooking pan she mentioned last Christmas; the new Oura ring, which was on her list; new purse; and perfume.
“It’s my Christmas catch,” she says. “I knew my husband would take care of me. He always does. He’s very attentive… I mean the fact that he remembered that [pan] I knew since last Christmas that he was preparing all this in his head.”
“I hope you all got a candle, a blanket, if that’s what you wanted, I know a lot of you didn’t get anything and that’s something I hated to read in all the comments,” she continues. “I know a lot of you are widows or single mothers and I’m sorry about my original TikTok and how it came out, like everyone gets something because I know a lot of people don’t get anything.”
