YS Jaganmohan Reddy is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. He is the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. His father YS Rajasekhara Reddy is the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He is the founder of YSR Congress. His party won the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.

Jaganmohan Reddy was born on 21 December 1972 (age 51; as of 2023) in Pulivendura village, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. He was educated at Hyderabad Public School, Hyderabad. He went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Nizam College in 1990 and received an MBA from Nizam College in 1993. After graduating from college, he started his own business. Although his father was a politician, he never considered entering politics. In 2004, he participated in several rallies to campaign for his father. As a businessman, he has many connections and knows many local people.
In 2008, he founded the Telugu daily “Sakshi” and soon after its success, he launched the TV channel “Sakshi TV” of the same name.

Jaganmohan Reddy was born into a Protestant Christian family. His father YS Rajasekhara Reddy is a Congress politician and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. On September 2, 2009, he died when the helicopter he was traveling in crashed over the Nalamala forest in Andhra Pradesh. His mother YS Vijayamma is a politician who served as an Andhra Pradesh MP and the honorary president of the YSR Congress. His sister YS Sharmila Reddy is a politician and a member of the YSR Congress Party led by Jaganmohan. When Jaganmohan was jailed in 2012, she handled his political campaign and ran the party with her mother. Sharmila Reddy also undertook a 3000 km walk marathon for the YRS Congress, which she started walking on October 18, 2012 at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district and ended on August 4, 2013. As part of the walkathon, she visited 14 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Jaganmohan Reddy’s husband is YS Bharati, a politician and YSR MP. They have two daughters, Varsha Reddy and Harsha Reddy.
He won the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections from Pulivendura constituency. On June 4, 2024, he resigned as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh after his party lost the assembly elections.

Jaganmohan Reddy had campaigned for his father in 2004. He joined the Indian National Congress (INC) in 2008. He contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Kadapa constituency and won. After his father’s death in 2009, he embarked on a condolence tour, traveling across Andhra Pradesh to meet his father’s supporters. The Andhra Pradesh Congress opposed the visit but said it was a personal matter and they should not interfere. On November 29, 2010, he quit the Congress Party after a dispute with its leadership and announced that he would form his own party within 45 days. In March 2011, he formed his own political party, Yuvajana Shramika Raithu Congress (YSR Congress).
In June 2012, the YSR Congress contested by-elections in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections and a by-election to a Lok Sabha seat. They won 17 seats in the parliamentary by-elections and 1 seat in the Lok Sabha elections. In the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Assembly election, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly won only 67 seats out of 175 and ultimately lost. Jaganmohan Reddy was elected Leader of the Opposition. On November 6, 2017, he began a 3,000-km padayatra (foot march). He is on this march to visit all 125 assembly and 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh and connect with the people of Andhra Pradesh. His march lasted a total of 430 days and ended on January 9, 2019. He held rallies and campaign events across Andhra Pradesh, which gave him a huge advantage in the 2019 assembly elections. On May 23, 2019, in the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Party won the election with 151 seats out of 175 seats and formed the government.
Jaganmohan Reddy was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on May 30, 2019.

- In 2011, former Andhra Pradesh state minister P Shankar Rao filed a petition against Reddy. He accused him of using his father’s position as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh to illegally obtain money. The petition stated that Jaganmohan Reddy had earned Rs. During his father’s tenure as Prime Minister, the income was Rs 43,000 crore. The CBI filed a case against him and issued more than 11 chargesheets against him. Reddy was jailed on May 27, 2012 and was relieved of his duties as Leader of the Opposition. He was released on bail in September 2013.
- On August 5, 2017, while addressing a rally, Reddy said that even if N. Chandrababu Naidu was shot down in the middle of the road, there would be no problem. He was criticized for the remarks. TDP leader Mallela Rajshekhar filed an FIR against him, accusing him of making derogatory remarks against the CM and inciting violence in an area prone to riots and communal violence.
- On October 25, 2017, while Reddy was at Visakhapatnam Airport; waiting for his flight. An airport employee walked up to him and asked to take a photo with him. As the employee took a selfie, he cut Reddy’s left hand with a knife. The employee was arrested and taken in for questioning. Reddy was injured and had to undergo surgery as the wound was deep. The employee was later identified as J Srinivas Rao. His motive for attacking Reddy is unclear as he has no political affiliation. Police suspect he did it just to impress some girls.
- On July 11, 2024, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju from Undi filed an attempt-to-murder case against him. In his complaint, Raju stated that Reddy conspired with two IPS officers and two retired officers in a criminal conspiracy against him. Raju also said he was tortured by police after being detained in May 2021 during the second wave of Covid-19.
