Yung Gravy Shuts Down 'Hawk Tuah' Girl's Claim She Rejected His Request for a Date — with Receipts

“Hawk tuah” girlfriend Haliey Welch isn’t interested in dating Yung Gravy — and the rapper claims he never asked her out.

After Welch, 21, told TMZ that the “Betty” rapper, 28, went into her DMs asking her out — and that she didn’t want to go — he responded with accounts that seemed to confirm that he wasn’t actually asking her out out.

Yung Gravy posted a screenshot of his Instagram conversation with Welch on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “can’t be nice anymore lol.”

In the conversation, Welch DM’d the rapper at 1:44 a.m., telling him “Hello sir.” He responded around noon, praising her for turning her viral video into stardom and saying that while he wasn’t trying to flirt with her, he wanted to invite her to a show in August.

“Damn, I just looked [your] page [you’re] really here doing this s— lol kudos,” he wrote, later adding, “Oh and this isn’t me trying to dress up because [I don’t know your] male situation <3 but I wanted to have [you] at next month's show to hear from... my country.”

According to the screenshot, Welch then asked Yung Gravy when the show would be, and he responded by saying that she “can pick one” of his upcoming dates.

A representative for Welch did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The Yung Gravy screenshots surfaced two days after Welch told a different story while speaking to TMZ on Sunday, August 18. During a brief interview, Welch was asked if she thought the musician was “trying to get with you,” to which she replied, “He wants to take me out. I was like no, I don’t know about that.”

Later, the magazine also revealed Yung Gravy, who admitted to entering Welch’s DMs, but did not ask her out.

“I wanted to show her some love,” he said of why he reached out. “I saw people hating her and they were angry villains. All she does is talk about sex and talk about it the right way, and that’s what I do. And nobody gets mad about it. So I thought she needed some love. I think I invited her to the show. I don’t believe I mentioned the date, but it could still be a date.”

When told she wasn’t interested, he replied: “She said no? Oh, I didn’t even ask her out, so. Well, s—.” Still, Gravy said it “always will be [a fan of hers].”

Welch quickly rose to viral fame in June after her raunchy interview with TikTok creators Tim and Dee TV went viral. DeArius Marlow interviewed people on Nashville’s iconic Broadway and spent time talking to Welch and her friend. Marlow asked Welch, “What’s the one move in bed that drives a man crazy every time?” In her pointed response, Welch said, “Oh, you gotta give him that ‘hawk tuah.'”

Since then, she’s been riding the wave of her fame, signed to a management company, sang on stage with Zach Bryan and even threw out the first pitcher at a New York Mets game.

In July she said on Plan Bri Uncut podcast that she quit her job at a bed spring factory after it went viral, but she hoped to move away from her new slogan.

“I don’t see it as any of my business,” she said. “I was a bit smart too, because it’s like you’re going to come up to me with a microphone and ask me something like that? . . . I [didn’t] it doesn’t mean anything [at the time].”
