Yung Miami Reveals She's Been the Victim of Domestic Violence, but 'That Wasn't My Experience' Dating Diddy (Exclusive) 

Yung Miami gets candid about what it was like dating Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Rapper and former member of City Girls, born Caresha Romeka Brownlee, returns to her hit podcast Caresha, please on Revolt TV this week, talking about his experiences over the past few months amid Diddy’s mountain of controversy and legal issues. Ahead of the premiere of the second season, she told PEOPLE exclusively about everything.

“It’s not easy,” he says of finally breaking his silence. – It’s a rollercoaster of emotions.

Yung Miami dated the maligned rapper-mogul and Revolt founder and former president, 54, before a 2016 surveillance video of him physically assaulting then-girlfriend Cassie was released on May 19. He has been hit with multiple civil lawsuits in recent months, and his home was raided back in March amid an ongoing federal criminal investigation.

The rapper, who split amicably from Diddy following a series of legal issues that came to light last November, says she was “deeply hurt and shocked after watching the video” of her ex and Cassie. “That was not my experience at all,” she says.

In a post he has since deleted on his social media account, Combs admitted he was “disgusted” by his actions towards Cassie, saying: “It’s so hard to think about the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you have to.”

He added: “I was freaking out. I mean, I hit rock bottom. But I’m not making excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable…I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I am appalled. I was disgusted when I did it, and I am disgusted now.”

Yung Miami admits that she too has been abused by a romantic partner in the past.

“I’ve been in a toxic relationship before when I was younger,” she says. “In high school, my early 20s, and it’s not healthy. It’s not fun. I was just there, doing it, and that’s a place I would never want to put myself.”

She continues: “Now, being 30 years old with two kids, that’s something I don’t condone or tolerate, something I’ve grown out of. That’s why I say that wasn’t my experience with him, because I wouldn’t have put up with it if [again].” She adds that she wants to be a good example of a “mother and wife for her daughter”.

As for what happened in her highly publicized relationship with Diddy, Yung Miami explains, “I met him in his dating era,” noting another of the mogul’s many nicknames. “He was focused on building love, and really closed in on his music and work. I was with him when the world celebrated him.”

As for the attraction, “I just think that when I met Diddy, he was just a man first and foremost. He was more interested in what I wanted to do and approached me with a lot of work [ideas]. “You should do it. I see it in you.’ So for me it was more than that. He saw more than music in me.”

One such undertaking was Caresha, pleasewhich Diddy encouraged her to do and found a home for Revolt TV, which he founded and was president of at the time. [Amid recent allegations and legal issues, Combs stepped down as chairman and no longer has ties to the media organization.]

The two went public with their romance in the show’s first episode, when Yung Miami interviewed her then-boyfriend and confirmed rumors that they were “going together.”

Back then, “it was just laughter and giggles and personality,” she recalls. That all changed amid news of the numerous allegations against him, but as for what specifically caused their split, she says that “sometimes a relationship runs its course. People break up every day, and with everything that’s happened, I just needed alone time.”

And she had time to reflect on her own actions in recent months. When another woman, Gina Huynh, who shared her own allegations of abuse by Diddy, spoke out about the Yung Miami relationship, the rapper took to social media with insults and racial slurs at Huynh. It’s a move he now regrets.

“I’m aware of things I tweeted to another woman that, looking back now, I know I shouldn’t have put any energy into,” she says. “Everybody saw how I reacted just when I was tested multiple times. I’m working on not letting people push me out of character, as hard as it is.”

She adds, “I never want to put down a whole group of people because one person is trying to get a reaction out of me. That’s not right, but I’m a work in progress and I’m constantly working to become a better version of Caresha.”

She hopes fans will see that work in the new season of her show.

“This whole thing broke me and affected me in such a way, and it was a dark time for me,” she says. “So I just want to stay positive and focus on me and what’s important to me right now. I always tell myself, ‘stay strong, stay consistent. You’re beautiful. You’re valuable.’ You always face challenges in life, but when you fall like that, you get back up and ride again.”

Representatives for Combs did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
