Zendaya Admits She's 'Still Harboring a Little Animosity' About Dancing with the Stars Loss: 'It Was Highly Stressful'

Zendaya will not be involved Dancing with the stars anytime soon.

The 28-year-old actress took second place on the 16th season of the ballroom dancing competition series more than a decade ago. But her experience stays with her — so much so that she’ll admit she “still harbors a little animosity” from the loss.

“I felt that loss. I was only 16 years old and it was very stressful,” she said W Magazine. “Being on live television every week? It’s so scary.”

In retrospect, Challengers star, who competed with Val Chmerkovskiy, said she wishes she “didn’t” take the show as “seriously” as she did.

“I wish I had enjoyed it a little more and just said, ‘Eh, whatever.’ You know what I mean? But I was stressed about it.”

With the loss still stinging (Kellie Pickler and her partner Derek Hough took home the mirror ball trophy on Zendaya’s season), she admitted that she no longer watches the show at all. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t watch other hit reality TV shows, though.

“I love, unfortunately, Love is blindand then I feel bad watching it,” she told the paper, calling the Netflix dating series a “guilty pleasure.”

“It’s brutal. I’m like, ‘Dang, do you know you’re on camera?'”

It’s not the first time that Zendaya has reflected badly on her experience DWTS. In October, during a performance at Entertainment Weekly‘with Award winner podcast, she said that there wasn’t much of an audience in the show even before the competition.

“I didn’t look Dancing with the stars since I was on,” she said. “I didn’t really watch Dancing with the stars before I was on Dancing with the stars. I don’t think I was the target demographic. My grandmother loves it Dancing with the starsit’s her bag.”

She also called it a “very stressful experience,” which is part of the reason she’s not coming forward now. “I thought, I don’t think I’m going to watch this again.”

Zendaya isn’t the only ex DWTS that the contestant reflects negatively on her experience in the show. Over the past year, several former contestants have admitted they believe the show is “rigged” to keep certain stars around longer.

Danica McKellar, who competed in season 18, told Cheryl Burke on her podcast in November that the series is “a reality show, not a dance competition.”

He also said he thinks the judges “know who they want” to stay on the show, “so you have to keep that person.”
