Russell Brand is facing numerous charges.
The comedian, 48, was recently accused of rape, sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse by five women, according to a joint investigation. The Sunday Times, Time and a UK current affairs show Shipments.
Media reported on September 16 that the alleged incidents took place between 2006 and 2013 when Brand was a presenter on BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4 and a Hollywood film actor. Of the five women, four remained anonymous, and one was 16 at the time.
Before the report was published, Brand — who did not name the broadcaster or newspaper — denied the allegations in a video shared on social media, saying he “absolutely refutes” the claims and described them as “extremely outrageous and aggressive attacks”. ”

From Time‘ the first article published, the newspaper reported that “several women” had come forward with new claims against Brando; Additionally, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told PEOPLE in a written statement that they “received a report of a sexual assault” that allegedly took place in London in 2003.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also commented on the claims through his official spokesperson, calling them “very serious and concerning,” PEOPLE confirmed. Banijay (which now owns Endemol, the media company that previously hired Brand), the BBC and Channel 4 have also launched investigations into the allegations.

On September 15, Brand shared a video on his social media, denying what he said were “very serious criminal” charges to be brought against him related to past “promiscuous” behavior. In the video, the actor said he “absolutely denies” the claims and described them as “extremely outrageous and aggressive attacks”.
“I have received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email, one from a mainstream TV station, one from a newspaper, stating a litany of extremely outrageous and aggressive attacks,” he said in the video. “But amid this litany of stunning, rather baroque attacks, there are some very serious allegations that I absolutely deny.”

A day after he shared his video, Brand was accused of rape, sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse by five women — four who remained anonymous — including one who was 16 at the time, according to the joint investigation. The Sunday Times, Time and a UK current affairs show Shipments.
The media reported — in the article he published Time September 16 and during the episode Shipments that same evening — that the incidents allegedly took place between 2006 and 2013 when the comedian was a presenter on BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4 and a Hollywood film actor.
According to Time article, the first incident allegedly took place in 2006 when Brand was 30 years old and working as a presenter on Channel 4 Big Brother’s big mouth and as a presenter on BBC radio.

Another unidentified woman accused Brand of raping her against a wall in his Los Angeles home on July 1, 2012. She described in detail her encounter with the actor Timeincluding how she “tried to get away from him.”
A third anonymous woman, who was allegedly her colleague, stated that Brand sexually assaulted her in early 2013. Time that he “grabbed me and put me on the bed” and continued to kiss and remove her clothes while she was pinned down.
Another woman, who shared her story anonymously, claims Time and during Shipments episode in which, while working with Brando, he showed his penis when she entered his dressing room.
Jordan Martin, Brando’s ex-girlfriend, also shared an account Time. In his 2014 book kNot: Plot with a celebrity, she accused Brando of sexually assaulting her and physically and emotionally abusing her during their six-month relationship. (She marked the beginning of their relationship as February 2007.)
18 September 2023: Russell Brand faces further allegations over ‘new’ claims by ‘several women’
Days later, Time reported that “several women” had come forward to the newspaper with “new” allegations involving Brando.
Scotland Yard was also prompted to investigate the allegations against Brand by government minister Caroline Nokes, who said on September 18 that “celebrities can act as a shield”, she reported Time.
On the same day, Scotland Yard confirmed to PEOPLE that London’s Metropolitan Police were “aware of media reports of a number of allegations of sexual abuse.” The statement added, however, that they “have not received any reports in this regard” — encouraging anyone who “believes they have been victimized” to “contact the police.”

18 September 2023: Russell Brand’s UK comedy tour postponed

Brand was due to perform three stand-up shows in the UK over the next two weeks as part of his Bipolarization tour. However, they were delayed due to the allegations.
“We’re postponing these few remaining addiction charity shows, we don’t like to do it – but we know you’ll understand,” tour promoters said on September 18 in a statement shared by the Theater Royal Windsor, where Brand was scheduled to appear on the 19 September, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Brand continued his performance on the night of September 16 and received a standing ovation. He also thanked the crowd of about 2,000 people for coming and said there were certain topics he could not discuss that evening, BBC News reported.
“I really appreciate your support, I love you and I want to put on a fantastic show for you,” he told the crowd, according to the outlet. “I have many things to discuss with you. Obviously there are some things I absolutely cannot discuss, and I appreciate your understanding.”
19 September 2023: The Metropolitan Police say another alleged attack has taken place in London
Brand has become the subject of fresh allegations over a sexual assault that allegedly took place in 2003. The Metropolitan Police said the alleged assault took place in London and that they were in contact with the woman in question.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told PEOPLE in a written statement on September 19: “On Sunday, September 17, the Met received a report of a sexual assault that allegedly took place in Soho, central London in 2003. Officers are in contact with the woman and provided will support her.”

September 19, 2023: Resurfaced video shows Russell Brand suggesting a 15-year-old should have a sex-themed birthday party

Amidst the allegations, a clip from Brand’s BBC radio show, The Russell Brand Showresurfaced on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Channel 4 Shipments. In a 2007 audio recording, Brand suggested to a 15-year-old girl that she throw a sex-themed birthday party.
“I guess you’re 16, you can’t drink or do any drugs yet because that’s illegal,” the comedian tells a caller who asked for ideas for celebrating her 16th birthday. “You will now be legally allowed to have sexual partners,” he continues, as the caller laughs, in the resurfaced clip.
“Now, I think you should theme the party around legal sex,” Brand adds. (In the UK, the age of consent is 16.)
Later in the conversation, he suggests that she should throw a vampire-themed masquerade party or ball, which he says is, “in its own way, erotic but in a subdued way, appropriate for a 16-year-old girl. ”
