Alan Cumming on the Flirtation Between The Traitors’ ‘Castle Daddy’ CT Tamburello and Phaedra Parks (Exclusive)

I apologize to the fans Traitors who feel like they’re watching a performance between season two cast members Chris “CT” Tamburello and Phaedra Parks — host Alan Cumming says the relationship between Challenge legend and The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum could just be fan fiction.

“I think there’s just as much of a chance for a romance between CT and Phaedra as there is between me and CT or me and Phaedra, actually,” Cumming, 59, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “But they are a funny little odd couple and very affectionate.”

Tamburello, the Faithful, helped Parks, the Traitor, get through the river during a mission in episode 6, and the two paired up to compete together in another mission in the next episode. (When it came time to choose a partner, Tamburello turned to Parks and asked, “How are you doing?” to which she replied, “Okay, Dad!”) Later in episode 7, Parks lit Tamburello’s torch to give him immunity from nocturnal murder.

“If Phaedra wants to light my torch, I’m not going to be rude and say no,” Tamburello, 43, said on the show.

Cumming thinks the pressure of the game drew Tamburello, 43, and Parks, 50, to each other.

“These people are put in this incredibly emotional and mentally messed up situation, and they’re in this bubble. They don’t really have access to the outside world,” suggests the Tony Award winner. “Of course they’re going to become really emotionally attached to each other.”

Still, “I don’t think holding hands with someone doesn’t mean you’re having an affair,” Cumming continues. “If that were the case, I’d be having an affair with most of my friends.”

When asked about her relationship with Tamburella na Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last month, Parks referred to the MTV star as her “Castle Daddy” and called their relationship a “love thing.”

However, as he weighs whether to join Peter Weber and Trishelle Canatella in voting to evict Parks in the final episode TraitorsTamburello really thought so, saying he came to the show “looking for traitors, not love.”

Most of the group ended up voting for the traitor Parvati Shallow, making Parks the last traitor – for now.

Cumming found himself surprised by Parks’ “passive” approach to the contest, but surmises that “it’s actually a very good tactic in a game like this.”

“She never really risks being judgmental about anything,” the Scottish actor continues. “And as a lawyer, you have to be very authoritative but non-partisan. So I was a bit surprised.”

While Parks may be picky about her endorsements (RIP Bergalicious), she’s riding for her fellow housewives. “The one thing she was really adamant about was her loyalty to the Housewives,” Cumming says. “There was a very tribal aspect to her household stuff, which I kind of enjoyed.”

Parks did court her Bravo co-star Kate Chastain to join her as Traitor, but viewers will have to wait until Thursday’s episode to see if she accepts the offer. As Traitors As Season 2 approaches its opening stretch, Cumming teases more twists to come.

“As soon as you think, ‘Oh, that happened,’ then something else happens and it’s so fascinating,” he says. “And people just disappear into the night.”
