Ex Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk are devoted parents.
Oscar-nominated actor and Sports Illustrated the model began dating in 2015 and welcomed their first and only child together, daughter Lea De Seine Shayk Cooper, in 2017. Cooper and Shayk broke up two years later.
During their relationship, they rarely appeared together in public, preferring to keep their romance and daughter out of the spotlight.
“Since my job requires me to be out and about, I’ve decided that my personal life will be quiet,” Shayk said Glamour UK in 2019 “That’s why it’s called personal, because it’s something for you and your family, and I’m happy about that.”
Regardless of their relationship status, Cooper and Shayk are “friends and getting along” for the sake of their daughter. According to the source, the family traveled to Italy during the summer of 2023 at Lea’s request.

During the interview with Ella in November 2023, Shayk discussed the parenting dynamic between her and Cooper.

Shortly after, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that Cooper and Shayk were expecting their first child together.
She is an Aries
Lea De Seine was born on March 21, 2017 in Los Angeles. Her parents have not spoken publicly about her birth or on social media, although PEOPLE has confirmed that she was born at 7:49 a.m., according to her birth certificate.
Cooper and Shayk kept a low profile after her birth, staying out of the spotlight until July when they took a star-studded vacation to Tahiti with friend Allison Williams and her then-husband Ricky Van Veen, as well as Anderson Cooper and his then-partner Benjamin Maisani, plus Diane von Furstenberg and Andy Cohen.
Shayk deals with mother guilt
Like many mothers who work outside the home, Shayk suffers from a nagging sense of mother guilt whenever she is away from her daughter. Speaking to PEOPLE in November 2018, the Russian model added that she does her best to stay in constant contact with Leo whenever she’s working.
“I’m a mom who always checks in,” she explained, adding that when it comes to mother guilt, “I’m really hard on myself.”
Reminding herself that she was not alone was her greatest comfort. “Everybody has one,” Shayk said. “Time goes by so fast. You just have to try to live in the moment.”
He reminds Cooper of his father
Cooper revealed during an appearance at the 2019 Oprah’s SuperSoul Talks from Times Square that his daughter often reminds him of his late father Charles, who died of lung cancer in 2011.
“[Having a family has] changed everything,” he said. “Our daughter, she’s amazing. And I often see my father in her.”
The actor shared that his father’s presence is extremely palpable when he’s alone with Leo — to the point where he sometimes wonders if he’s actually there. “I can’t believe I’m going to admit this, but I’ve had times when I’ve… been in the room with her, I’d say, ‘Dad?’ There are moments where he looks just like my father,” he said, adding, “I watch too many movies.”

Shayk is raising her to know that women are “strong and powerful”
While being a single mom working outside the home can be tough at times, Shayk wants to make sure she’s raising her daughter to understand that she loves and empowers her work.
“It’s hard to find the balance between being a single mom and being a working woman and provider,” Shayk said British Vogue in March 2020. “Believe me, there are days when I wake up and say, ‘Oh my God, I don’t know what to do, I’m falling apart.’ ”
She added that while she tries to minimize the time she spends away from her daughter, she also wants Lea to know that paid work and motherhood are not mutually exclusive.
“I always try not to be away from my daughter for more than a week, but I also don’t want to be a woman who is not honest with herself, because I love my job and I was brought up in a household run by women. I want my daughter to know that mom has a job in my life because I want to raise a strong, powerful woman. Gifts and food don’t come out of the blue.”
She has “so many toys” – but is learning to understand her privilege
Shayk has humble beginnings, she grew up in “the middle of nowhere in Russia” as the daughter of a miner and a pianist, she told Vogue in 2020. She’s determined to pass on the same thoughtfulness and manners she was raised with, especially since she and Cooper are raising their daughter amid the Hollywood milieu.
“Her father and I are very strict. When he finishes eating, he gets up from the table, takes the plate, says ‘thank you’. Without a ‘please’ or a ‘thank you,’ she gets nothing,” Shayk said HIGH style.
“It’s hard, because she has so many toys. I had one doll, and I still have this doll. Blue, blue eyes, a big Russian doll. My grandmother made her clothes,” Shayk said, explaining how she tries to help her daughter. to understand that not everyone grows up with the same privileges.
“I always explain, ‘Look, this is my doll. I only had one.’ Or sometimes, ‘You have this candy. I used to only have candy for Christmas,'” she added.
Fatherhood has drastically changed Cooper’s approach to work and life

She grows up surrounded by love
Cooper credits his parents for raising him to feel deeply loved and supported, and now strives to pass that positive environment on to his daughter as she grows up.
Speaking with NPRhe explained that part of what bound him to his own A star is born The costar, Lady Gaga, is that they both “were very, very loved as children.” He added: “When I meet people who had a similar upbringing, I just see it in them.”
He works hard to pass that same upbringing on to his daughter, he added. “That’s what I want my daughter to have — I just want her to always feel loved.”
While Cooper’s late father was a major influence on the actor while he was alive, Cooper revealed that his father’s lessons still influence his life and parenting style.
In an exclusive clip shared with PEOPLE from the episode Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, Cooper said, “I think you learn from the mistakes of your predecessors and I’m going to make tons that hopefully Leo will learn from and then I’m going to be rigorous with myself to grow,” Cooper said. “To help her relieve any of my bulls—.”
Cooper and Shayk talk to her about kindness every day before school
Co-parents teach Leo to be compassionate towards his peers.
“We teach our daughter that the most important thing is to be kind to people. Every time we send her to school, we say, ‘Just remember kindness and love,'” Shayk shared in an essay for Harper’s Bazaar.
