What a mother such a daughter!

Kate Moss is the proud mother of one child, daughter Lila (21), whom she welcomed with ex-boyfriend Jefferson Hack on September 29, 2002 in London. Although Kate and Hack divorced shortly after Lily’s birth, they continued to co-parent and remained friendly (Hack even attended Kate’s wedding to Jamie Hince in 2011).

“I felt like now that I had a partner in crime, I would never have to be alone again,” Kate said British Vogue 2007, when Lila was 4 years old.

Although Kate initially tried to talk her daughter out of pursuing her own modeling career, she has since come around to the idea – and has become Lily’s biggest fan.

“I’ll support her obviously,” said the British supermodel in 2018. “I’ll be her mom! She can, if she wants to. I’ll support her in whatever she wants to do.”

Kate (virtually) supported Lily’s runway debut in 2020, when the then 18-year-old opened the Miu Miu show at Paris Fashion Week. The newly minted star has since done campaigns for Fendi, Versace and Calvin Klein. And in January 2024, when Kate sat front row at the Dior Men’s fashion show in Paris, her daughter sat right behind her.

She was born and raised in London

On September 29, 2002, Kate gave birth to her first and only child with ex Hack. The supermodel was 28 years old when she gave birth to Lila in London.

Although Kate described herself as a “workaholic” in 2008, she always put her daughter first, making sure she got home in time for Lily’s nightly routine, which Kate described as “the best part of the day”.

“I kiss her goodnight and she’s so adorable. I try to spend as much time as possible with her,” she said of the then 6-year-old Lili. “The worst is when I have to leave and she asks me: ‘Why do you have to go?’ It’s very difficult for her when I travel, which is why I’m never gone for more than two days.”

While Lila was raised out of the limelight in London, she made her modeling debut at the age of 13, appearing on the cover of Vogue Italy alongside Kate in 2016 (Lila later appeared solo on the cover of the magazine in 2020)

She is a model

Lila began her own modeling career in 2018 as the newest face of Marc Jacobs Beauty, represented by her mother’s modeling agency, the Kate Moss Agency.

She has since appeared in Miu Miu’s SS20 campaign before making her runway debut for the Italian fashion house in October 2020. Lila opened the brand’s Spring/Summer 2021 Paris Fashion Week show, which featured a socially distanced runway and virtual audience . First, she walked the catwalk in a blue collared blouse, oversized blazer and black mini skirt embellished with rhinestones, then in a sparkly pink halter and orange mini skirt from the brand’s collection.

Kate later reflected on her experience watching her daughter on the catwalk. “I was really nervous about her,” she said in a video for British Vogue. “I was sitting around the kitchen table… Some girls [were there] and we were waiting for the start of the show on the link. When she came out, we said, ‘She’s doing it! She does it!’ Yeah, I was really proud.”

In September 2023, Lila made headlines when she walked the pink carpet at the Victoria’s Secret World Tour in September 2023. She and Iris Law walked side by side in coordinating looks, which included sheer mini dresses and angel wings reminiscent of the brands iconic past runway shows.

Her mom didn’t want her to be a model at first

When Lila was only 6 years old, Kate said Now magazine that she wanted to keep her daughter out of the spotlight. In a 2008 interview, the model said her “dream is for my daughter to be happy” and that she wants her to “grow up like a normal girl, away from fame.”

In an interview with S. 2022 British Vogue, Lila said that her mother dissuaded her from modeling from a young age. “She always said, ‘If you want to do it, you can, but I wouldn’t recommend it,'” she told the magazine.

However, Kate has since changed her mind, saying she fully supports “everything”. [Lila] wants to work” in modeling.

She and Kate walked the runway together

Kate and Lila’s resemblance was undeniable when they both attended the Fendi couture show during Paris Fashion Week 2021. Lila walked the runway first in a sheer dress with silver beading, followed by Kate, who wore an elegant pewter gown with embellished fringe and dramatic drop earrings.

After the show, the mother-daughter duo modeled their looks inside a glass box as attendees looked on. Other models (which included stars like Naomi Campbell, Bella Hadid and Cara Delevingne) posed individually in glass boxes due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Kate and Lila were able to be together as they shared a household.

The pair modeled together again in September 2023 when Lila joined her famous mum at Vogue World: London. While Kate opened the show, Lila stepped into the spotlight towards the end wearing a My beautiful lady-inspired dress and oversized hat.

She follows in her mother’s footsteps

Thirty years after Kate’s career-making Calvin Klein ad in 1992, Lila appears in the brand’s Fall 2022 campaign. Photographed and directed by Alasdair McLellan, the campaign features Lila posing in a black tank top and jeans that reveal the waistband of her bottom laundry with the CK logo. Her second look features a sheer black button-up over bra styled with black jeans.

As stated in the press release, the images “nod to the stripped-down imagery the brand is known for, capturing the true confidence of each talent.”

She’s teaching her mom how to make up

Kate may have worked with top beauty industry professionals for decades, but she still has a lot to learn. In the 2018 interview Harper’s BazaarKate said that Lila opened her eyes to new makeup techniques.

“She teaches me everything,” she told the newspaper. “Lila and her friends follow all the beauty blogs and Instagram accounts, and she’ll be like, ‘Mom, you’ve got to try this, it’s amazing what I can do now.’ She does all that contouring and stuff, which I’m sure they do to me when I’m at work, but I never pay attention. I’m too busy talking.”

While Lila might be the resident beauty expert in the Moss household, she does take some advice from her mom when it comes to fashion. In the video for British VogueKate revealed that she has saved most of the clothes from her legendary wardrobe for her daughter — and that Lila has “already started diving” into her closet.

“She stole my Azzedine Alaia skirt the other day,” Kate said. – And he’s so cute.

He has type 1 diabetes

In an interview with S. 2020 Setthe rising model opened up about living with type 1 diabetes, a chronic condition that requires insulin injections (either with a needle or a pump) to keep blood sugar levels within a healthy range.

“I think not many people know that I have diabetes,” Lila said. “You can’t tell from the outside, so no one would know by just looking at you. I have type 1.”

While walking the Fendi x Versace “Fendace” show during Milan Fashion Week 2021, Lila proudly showed off the insulin pump she uses to manage her diabetes. The tubeless device, which was attached to her left thigh, was visible in her baroque embroidered jacket and bodysuit. Fans were quick to praise the model for destigmatizing the condition, with one commenting on Instagram: “Thank you for showing off your pod!! Inspirational to many diabetics around the world 🌎.”

Lila also showed off her pump and glucose monitor at the 2022 Met Gala, and shortly after appeared in a Versace by Fendi campaign with a glucose monitor seen on her arm.

She shares sweet tributes to her mom on social media

Lila is celebrating her mom’s birthday in true Gen Z fashion — posting tributes on Instagram. In January 2021, she greeted Kate’s big day by sharing a black and white throwback photo, writing in the caption: “Happiest birthday ever, love you so much.”

In 2022, Lila shared a more recent photo for her mother’s birthday, saying, “happy birthday mom 🤍 my best friend forever xxxx.”

He likes to rummage through his mother’s closet

While talking to VogueLila shared that she always tries to emulate her mom’s chic style by stealing things from the former supermodel’s closet.

“I go out in my clothes and she’ll be like, ‘Oh my God, I’m so jealous you look so cute!’ I say, ‘It’s all yours,'” Lila said with a laugh. “I mostly steal her bags. I can’t steal her shoes, which is devastating. She’s a size six and I’m a size five.”

She attended the 2023 Met Gala with her mom

In keeping with tradition, Lila and Kate attended the Met Gala together in 2023. The mother-daughter duo wore matching Fendi fashions on the red carpet – Lila in a flowing dress with a sheer bodice and Kate in a slip dress with lace details.
