Ana de Armas Opens Up About Why She Left L.A. to Live ‘Off the Grid’ in Rural Vermont: ‘My Little Cocoon’

Ana de Armas enjoys life away from the bright lights of Hollywood.

After years of living in Los Angeles, Witty The 36-year-old actress revealed that she has moved into a new home that allows her a more peaceful life as she talks to Hey! News on Saturday 7.9.

“I feel like today we all want to get away from the madness of the world,” De Armas told the news outlet. “We all want to have the opportunity to build our own safe space. I made that decision myself.”

She continued: “I’ve found a home where I really feel off the grid. I can pull myself together and bring only those I want to be with there. I have my little cocoon there.”

De Armas has reportedly moved into a $7 million home in rural Vermont that has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, according to the release. The peaceful place is said to be surrounded by mountains, lush greenery and open fields.

The Knives out star, who is originally from Cuba, then delved deeper into why she decided to leave LA.

“You just feel when it’s time for a change,” she said. “Take care of yourself. There comes a time when you learn what is good for you and what is not. What serves you the most? Pay attention to it and do something about it.”

De Armas previously lived in Venice, California, but put her home on the market in 2020 while she was in a relationship with Ben Affleck, PEOPLE reported. A source confirmed to PEOPLE at the time that the couple officially began living together at a time when their relationship was “strong.”

After they split in January 2021 after a year of dating, De Armas opened up ELLE 2022 about how their highly publicized relationship contributed to her decision to leave Los Angeles after living there for seven years.

“That’s one of the reasons I left LA going through it [myself] confirmed my thoughts about, ‘This is not the place for me,’ she explained. “It became a little too much. There is no escape. There is no way out. … It’s always the feeling of something you don’t have, something you miss. It’s a city that keeps you anxious.”

She then moved to New York with her current boyfriend, Tinder CEO Paul Boukadakis, according to the outlet.

De Armas, who stars in a new thriller Eden alongside Sydney Sweeney, she made history when she became the first Cuban actress to be nominated for an Oscar in a leading role after portraying Marilyn Monroe in the Netflix film Blonde.

In April 2023, she opened up to PEOPLE about the “surreal” Oscar nomination she received for Best Actress.

“It felt amazing. It was so special,” she told PEOPLE at the time. “Not just the Oscars, all those awards just gave that recognition to the performance. I feel like, for so long, I’ve been waiting for the movie to come out. It was so beautiful, full circle. . . . I’ll always remember it was pretty surreal.”
