Billy Bob Thornton's 4 Kids: All About Amanda, William, Harry and Bella

Billy Bob Thornton is the father of four children: daughters Amanda and Bella and sons William and Harry.

The Sling Blade the star has been married six times, and shares children with three of his ex-partners. He had his first child, daughter Amanda Brumfield (née Thornton), in 1979 with his first wife, Melissa Lee Gatlin. The couple separated the following year.

After two other marriages, Billy married first Playboy model Pietro Dawn Cherniak in 1993. He and Cherniak had two sons together: William in 1993 and Harry in 1994. Three years later, the couple went their separate ways.

In 2000, he married his Pushing Tino actress Angelina Jolie. Shortly after their divorce in 2003, he began dating special effects artist Connie Angland, with whom he had a daughter, Bella, in 2004. Billy and Angland married in 2014.

Billy became a father for the first time when his daughter Amanda Brooke was born on July 28, 1979. She was his first and only child with his first wife, Gatlin, to whom he was married for two years before they divorced in 1980.

The Oscar winner opened up about his rocky relationship with estranged daughter Amanda, including not being much of a presence during her childhood.

“She didn’t grow up with me, so we were pretty much strangers for years,” he told UK Mail on Sunday 2005. “Then a few years later we reconnected and now it’s really good.”

However, in 2009, Billy’s public relationship with Amanda changed when she was indicted on multiple charges — including first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated murder — after her one-year-old godson died while in her care in October 2008. Billy’s publicist is told CNN that he had not been in contact with Amanda “for a long time.”

She was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and spent nearly nine years in prison before being released early on September 4, 2020, with the help of the Innocence Project of Florida, which called her sentence “wrongful imprisonment.”

Billy and Cherniak had a son, William Langston Thornton, on June 27, 1993. He was named after his father — Billy’s full name is William — and was the actor’s first son and first child with Cherniak.

William has made several public appearances with his father over the years, as early as 1998 Rugrati premiere.

Billy’s older son had another red carpet moment in 2016 when he joined his dad and stepmom, Angland, at the film’s premiere Evil Santa Claus 2. William wore a close-fitting all-black outfit for the occasion, including a tie and hat. He opted for a similar look for the premiere Whiskey Tango Foxtrot that same year.

William also appears on his younger brother’s Instagram account from time to time, offering a glimpse into the siblings’ lives together. The two seem to have remained close with their father, returning home for the holidays and often posing with the actor at family gatherings.

Billy and Cherniak welcomed their second son, Harry James Thornton, on June 19, 1994.

In 2022, Harry starred in the reality series E! Relatively famous: Ranch Rules, in which the children of celebrities tackled village chores. Harry opened up about his childhood on the show, telling his co-stars that he was home-schooled. “I think we stayed at the house a lot when I was growing up,” he told E!.

His appearance on reality TV wasn’t the only way he followed in his father’s Hollywood footsteps: Harry’s first creditable job was as a model on Good place In 2018, he was also an assistant prop master on his father’s Golden Globe-winning series Goliath.

In addition to his work on television, Harry is also a luxury real estate agent. While he started at the Aaron Kirman Group, he eventually opened his own firm, Thornton Group, based in Beverly Hills.

Billy and his current wife Angland welcomed a daughter, Bella Thornton, in September 2004 in Los Angeles — she is Billy’s fourth child and Angland’s first.

The actor’s youngest child arrived shortly after he started dating Angland, who is a special effects technician. About 10 years later, he and Angland quietly married on October 22, 2014, in a private ceremony at home.

When Bella was 9, Billy gave PEOPLE a glimpse into their life at home, offering insight into her passion for bugs and books.

“My daughter wants to be an entomologist, so it’s all about insects like butterflies and caterpillars,” he said. “Last Halloween she went as a monarch butterfly and I went as a ladybug. That doesn’t really sound like me, but I did it. I tied the wings and everything.”

Although Bella has mostly stayed out of the limelight, she has made public appearances with her parents over the years. In 2008, she joined her father on stage as he performed with his band, The Boxmasters, at the Borders in LA.
