A BOY and a teenage girl killed in a horrific crash were caught in the “infamous black spot” that claimed four lives last week.

The group were traveling on the A61 between South Stainely and Ripley, Ripon, North Yorkshire, in a silver Vauxhall Meriva when they were sadly killed in the head-on collision.

North Yorkshire Police say a Vauxhall and a blue Toyota Aygo collided with a double decker bus traveling in the opposite direction.

It is the second fatal crash in which officers have chased each other on that stretch of road in the past eight days.

The cyclist (59) unfortunately died on August 26 when he collided with a Land Rover Discovery and a Ford Transit Kombi.

A heroic off-duty firefighter and an NHS occupational therapist tried to save the children as emergency services rushed to the scene.

A woman who lives nearby said: “There were terrible, terrible, catastrophic injuries in that first car.

“The bus, the front end, was badly damaged. You can’t imagine transferring power to that tiny car.

“The fireman asked people to help keep the victims’ airwaves open.

“But when they realized the extent of the injuries, all the focus was on trying to keep the boy alive.

“An off-duty firefighter examined the child and determined that he needed CPR immediately. There was also an occupational therapist in the accident who also helped.

“It was such a forceful stop that all the people on the bus rushed forward. There were many people on board, but fortunately they were not seriously injured.”

The bus driver was taken to hospital with leg injuries, while some passengers suffered minor injuries.

The two passengers in the Toyota escaped unharmed.

In the Aug. 26 tragedy, the unnamed man was riding with a group of motorcyclists and was in the back when the tragedy occurred, police said.

One local, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “The speed limit must be reduced. When we try to go out on the road, it’s like taking our lives into our own hands.

“I have to roll down the windows to listen for oncoming traffic because the visibility on the bend is very poor.

“You hear cars screeching to brake all the time.

“We have asked many times to reduce the speed limit, but nothing has ever been done.

“You wonder how many more accidents need to happen before something is done.”

Officers are now appealing for witnesses as they launch an investigation into the crash.

The traffic police was today determining the circumstances of the terrible accident that happened on Sunday around 2:20 p.m.

Locals said that the Meriva might have been trying to make an overtaking maneuver in a bend when the tragedy happened.
