Brittany Mahomes Echoes Charles Barkley’s Defense of Taylor Swift Not ‘Ruining’ Football: ‘Let Them Know’

Brittany Mahomes has Taylor Swift’s back!

Mahomes, 28, defended her friend on Instagram on Friday, when she signed off on the stance of NBA great and analyst Charles Barkley, who argued this week that any football fan who claims Swift “ruined” football is just a “loser.”

“Let them know.” Mahomes wrote on her Instagram stories with a quote from Barkley’s CNN program King Charles.

Mahomes’ post comes just days after the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, 60, came to the defense of Swift, 34, during his episode with Gayle King on Wednesday.

“If you’re screaming at Taylor Swift saying she ruined it [football], you’re just a loser. You’re just a loser or an ass,” Barkley published on air. “You can be A or B.”

Bob Costas, who appeared alongside King and Barkley during the debate, then added that “a lot of people who don’t watch football year-round” are watching the Super Bowl – where Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, Mahomes’ husband Patrick and the Kansas City Chiefs will square off on the 11th. against the San Francisco 49ers in February.

“So for people all of a sudden, because they don’t like something about Taylor Swift. Either they don’t like the Chiefs, or they’ve decided that maybe Taylor Swift isn’t a Trumper, then they’re annoyed by Taylor Swift,” Costas said. “I can tell you guarantee all this news on Fox News wouldn’t be happening if she was wearing a MAGA hat. They would love it.”

King then pointed to “all the new” viewers Swift “brought to the NFL.”

“It’s hard to imagine the Super Bowl could have a higher rating, but in a small percentage it could even go up,” Costas said, sharing that the NFL “touched a different demographic” with Swift’s appearance.

“And in terms of merchandise sales, Travis Kelce jerseys and everything else, and attention to regular season games, the NFL rules not only sports, but all of America’s entertainment,” he continued.

Herd host Colin Cowherd also spoke out this week about those who don’t accept Swift’s relationship with Kelce, 34 — calling them “weird, lonely, insecure men.”

During his talk show on Fox Sports, Cowherd expressed his distaste for those who bother Swift and Kelce. “There’s a lot of really weird, lonely, insecure men out there,” said Cowherd, 60. “The fact that the world’s biggest pop star is dating a star tight end, who had one of his best games ever, and the network puts them on the air for a little while, that bothers you, what does that say about your life?”

The analyst added that most NFL fans don’t want to “just watch football” regardless, adding that “commercials four hours before the Super Bowl will be widely viewed.”

“Did you know, statistically, in three and a half hours of NFL playoff or regular season coverage, only 18 minutes is actual football,” he said. “About five Taylor Swift songs.”

Swift’s impact on the NFL is supported by Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, who spoke with PEOPLE about how much he appreciates her and Kelce’s relationship.

“Our sport has become as much a spectacle as anything — and that’s why I love it,” said Warner, 52. “I like it more for those two because I know Travis and I’m a big fan, and it seems to work well for those two. ”

He added: “It brings another layer of excitement to the games and to what’s going on, and to a fan base that maybe didn’t watch football as much before, and now we’re watching it and maybe they’ve tuned in for something other than football.”
