The pensioner suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain and died in hospital nine days after the attack on May 6, 2021.

Moumeche, now 18, was found guilty of manslaughter in July and a judge today sentenced the young killer to two years in a juvenile detention center at Derby Crown Court.

The ex-soldier, who served in Singapore, was followed to a bus station in Derby, where he was punched to the ground by the cowardly thug.

Moumeche, from Derby, fled the bus stop after the attack but was arrested just minutes later.

Detective Inspector Mark Shaw said: “Our investigation was aided by CCTV footage and numerous witness statements, all of which were presented during the trial.

“The defendant claimed that he acted in self-defense, and the jury, on a demanding balance and a high threshold, refused to accept his version of events.

“Dennis was a well known and loved friend and family member.

“Dennis’ family were present during all the hearings and behaved with absolute dignity throughout the trial, including when the guilty verdict was handed down and I thank them for that.”

Andrew Baxter, from the CPS, said: “Dennis Clarke’s tragic death was the result of this young person’s frightening and aggressive behaviour, refusing to back down and not knowing when to walk away.

“Mr Clarke was entitled to challenge such conduct and then continued with his work, assuming the incident was over.

“Moumeche decided to confront him at the bus station, acting aggressively and intimidatingly towards a man in his 80s who posed no threat.

“He then threw a punch which led to the death of an elderly and innocent man and a family grieving a beloved family member and respected member of the community.”

No further action was taken against two other teenagers who were then arrested in connection with the attack.
