David Dhawan is a veteran Indian film director, screenwriter and editor known for his work on Hindi comedy films, primarily with Indian actor Govinda. He is the father of Indian actor Varun Dhawan.

David Dhawan was born on Thursday, August 16, 1951, in Agartala, Tripura, India, as Rajinder Dhawan (age 72; as of 2023). He grew up in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Leo.

He studied at Christ Church College and BNSD Inter College (both in Kanpur). Later, he joined Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) to become an actor. However, he soon realized that acting was not his strong point and enrolled in an editing course at FTII. He passed out with the FTII gold medal.
