Denver Nuggets’ Aaron Gordon Out Indefinitely After Suffering Dog Bites to Face and Hand

Aaron Gordon’s NBA season is over.

The Denver Nuggets announced Wednesday that the 28-year-old basketball player suffered lacerations to his face and hand after being bitten by a dog on Christmas Day.

According to ESPN and The Athletic, Gordon needed 21 stitches as a result of the incident. While a date for his return has not been announced, the Nuggets said Gordon is “in good condition” and further updates will be provided as needed.

Earlier in the day, the forward helped the Nuggets secure a 120-114 win against the Golden State Warriors by scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Coach Michael Malone he told reporters on Wednesday that the Nuggets are focused on getting Gordon healthy “inside and out” before he returns. “We’re not going to put any pressure on him. We need him to get healthy inside and out. Going through something like that is not something you come back from easily,” he said. . “It’s something where you have to heal from the physical, but you also have to heal from the mental and what you just went through.”

“We want him back. We know we’re better off with him,” Malone added. “But I want to support Aaron Gordon and make sure that when he comes back, he’s ready to come back and play at the level that we know he’s capable of.”

Teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope he told reporters that the team learned of Gordon’s injury during practice. “My condolences to him. I know he’s feeling down right now, but I’m going to reach out to him today and just try to lift him up [and] make sure he’s okay,” he said.

The injury comes after Gordon had to miss four games in November and early December with a sprained heel. According to The Athletic, Gordon said walking felt like “stepping on stone” after returning on Dec. 2 during the team’s game against the Sacramento Kings.
