Emily Blunt Says the Devil Wears Prada Cast Is ‘All Good’ with No Sequel: ‘Things Should Be Cherished’

During the interview for Happy Sad Confused podcast at The 92nd Street Y, New York, the Oppenheimer star, 40, said there was “never” any real momentum in making the sequel to the 2006 hit film.

The Oscar nominee told host Josh Horowitz that the cast is “fine” without filming a sequel. “Sometimes things need to be nurtured and kept in this bubble and that’s okay,” she explained.

“And I think – isn’t Meryl [Streep] say something funny about it? She was asked about it: ‘Would you ever do a sequel?’ and she said, ‘Yes, if I don’t have to lose weight.’ But I think she said ‘fucking weight,'” the actress recalled.

Blunt was referring to her former colleague’s 2012 interview Access to Hollywood. “Sure, I mean, I’d have to lose some freaking weight, but I would, yeah,” Streep said at the time, reports Ella.

While Blunt shared the current state of the cast regarding the sequel, she has expressed mixed emotions about the idea in the past. In 2018, she told PEOPLE that she didn’t think a second movie was likely at the time, but added, “If everybody was doing it, I’d be all for it.”

“I almost hope not [happen] because I think sometimes when you go on it dilutes how special the original is,” Blunt said.

Four years later, in an interview at ViewBlunt told the co-hosts that she would “please [a sequel] in the blink of an eye just to play with those guys again.”

But a week before, Hathaway shared with View co-host that she didn’t know if there could be a continuation. “I just think that movie was in a different era, you know? Now everything has become so digital, and that movie was focused on the concept of producing a physical thing,” Hathaway said. “It’s just very different now.”

“It’s tempting to think that Andy and Emily need to get Miranda coffee and she’s somewhere in Europe. And then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant. It’s tempting, but I don’t think it’s going to happen,” she continued.

Hathaway suggested rebooting the film with a new cast.

in 2021, said director David Frankel Entertainment Weekly that the studio was “not looking” for a sequel, but did reveal that the filmmakers had a meeting where they were toying with the idea. “We said, ‘What could we do if there was a sequel?’ Maybe it was stupid; we felt like, no, this story has been told.”
