On February 23, 2021, Emma was arrested in Virginia on suspicion of drug trafficking.

In 2007, Emma Coronel won the beauty pageant at the Coffee and Guava Festival in Canelas, Durango. In addition to the drug trafficking charges, she is accused of conspiring to help her husband escape from Mexico’s maximum-security Altiplano prison in 2015. In January 2016, Chapo was arrested again in Mexico, and in 2019 he was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison at a trial in New York.
- Despite the brutal facts of murder, rape, and Chapo’s claims of spying on Emma and other mistresses, Emma stood by him during his three-month trial in New York. In an interview, she said:
