Paramedics rushed to the scene but were unable to save the law student from Hamilton, Lanarkshire, due to the extent of her injuries.

Numerous mourners rushed to the Internet to pay tribute to the tragic young man.

Emma’s devastated mum wrote: “My angel Emma. I don’t even know where to start.

“You are my daughter my best friend in the whole world and I will miss you more than words can ever describe

“Rest in peace my sweet angel and sleep tight, mommy loves you so much.”

The headteacher of St John Ogilvie High School said: “We are shocked and saddened by the heartbreaking news of the sudden death of our former headteacher, Emma Ramsay.

“Emma was an incredibly kind, diligent, bright and talented student who contributed a lot to our school community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We will miss Emma and she will forever have a special place in our school.”

Colette Watson, headteacher at St Mark’s Primary School in Hamilton, said: “Emma was a lovely girl, caring and considerate and many of our staff have really fond memories of her time with us.

“This is terribly sad news and our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences go out to Emma’s family and friends.”

Best friend Niamh wrote: “Our beautiful angel. I will forever be grateful to call you my friend.

“You will be forever young my girl, never goodbye just see you later.

“The greatest ray of sunshine that walks the earth and the greatest blessing that heaven ever received.”

The Civil Guard continued the investigation yesterday, and the autopsy has yet to be performed.

A police spokesman said: “I can confirm that a 19-year-old British tourist has died following a fall at a hotel in San Antonio, Ibiza.”

A well-placed police source added: “Everything points to a tragic accidental fall.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”

She is the second British woman to fall to her death on the Balearic Islands in a matter of days.

On Saturday morning, a 28-year-old British traveler died in a 15-foot fall at a hotel in Palmanova, near Magaluf, Majorca, after a night of partying.

The dead man’s partner had to be treated for a panic attack later in the day.
