Giannis Antetokounmpo is always a “father first” – but especially during the gruesome season!
After a tough loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday, Oct. 25, the Milwaukee Bucks player, 29, arrived for his usual postgame press conference at Fiserv Forum wearing an unusual outfit: a Mr. Potato Head costume.
When asked about the journalist’s unconventional attire, the star joked that when you’re married, “you don’t have a say in things.”
Antetokounmpo – who married longtime love Mariah Riddlesprigger in Greece earlier this year – explained that “when the day starts, you have, like, a schedule.”
“This is what you will do today,” he continued. “You will go to training, you will come back, you will communicate with the children. Then you’ll take a nap, and then we’ll have a costume ready for you.”
According to the NBA star, Riddlesprigger instructed him to wear the costume regardless of how he felt. “Win or lose, you’re going to wear that costume,” he said. “Because at the end of the day, you’re a father and then a basketball player.”
“So,” he finished, “I chose this costume because I’m first and foremost a father. I have three children. I have to go entertain my children.”

The toy-inspired outfit wasn’t a one-off look, but a coordinated costume with his three children – sons Liam, 4, Maverick, 3, and daughter Eva, 13 months – who were spotted dressed as the others Toy story characters in the Bulls-Bucks game, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The Mr. Potato Head costume also wasn’t the first time Antetokounmpo celebrated Halloween in a postgame press conference.
Last year, the NBA star dressed up as The Incredible Hulk — and even adopted the superhero’s voice — before and after a game in October, according to footage shared by ESPN.
And when asked if he’s channeling his “inner Hulk” on the court in a nod to the green jersey, Antetokounmpo echoed his Mr. Potato Head, saying “this works for my kids”.
