Godzilla Daikaiju Battle Royale: 10 Best Playable Characters Ranked

The brainchild of Godzilla superfan Alex Merdich, Godzilla Daikaiju Battle Royale is a fan-made flash game that pits several kaiju (monsters) against each other in the larger Godzilla universe. Despite it not being officially licensed by Toho, the game has spawned a cult following among fans.

Players get a vast variety of options to play not just as Godzilla and his various variants, but also other gigantic creatures such as Moguera, Mothra, Baragon, and several others. Basically, it’s the ultimate Godzilla fan experience with some of the franchise’s most iconic monsters.

Legendary Wolfman

The Wolfman AKA Legendary Wolfman is a werewolf kaiju that has mostly appeared in Godzilla fan movies like Wolfman vs Baragon and Wolfman vs Godzilla. In Daikaiju Battle Royale, he does add some diversity to the lineup, as he’s not one of the usual reptilian nemesis of Godzilla. Instead, he has a furry, white yeti-like appearance.

However, as iconic as he might be, his attacks are quite limited. Offering just basic hand-to-hand combat and forward movement, Wolfman might not be as “legendary” as the other monsters in the game.

Mechani-Kong

The robotic duplicate of the “eighth wonder of the world” was a part of the game’s 2021 Christmas Update. As Mechani-Kong, the player’s mobility is limited and the player can’t fire any energy beams either. But the badass nature of Mechani-Kong comes from the robot’s relentless direct combat skills.

No matter what the threat is, Mechani-Kong can channel King Kong’s rage from a volley of fast-paced jumps, coupled with occasional jumps. Even the character’s mechanical roar is bound to increase the players’ adrenaline. Mechani-Kong might not be the toughest creature of the game’s MonsterVerse, but he is definitely one of the most memorable.

Monster X

Monster X firing beams at Godzilla in Daikaiju Battle Royale

The three-headed dragon kaiju Monster X is one of Godzilla’s best enemies from the Showa period. In the game, he usually appears in his upright form, which allows limited movement. However, he is an update from monsters like Wolfman, as he not only resorts to combat, but he can also fire yellow gravitational beams from his eyes.

And when Monster X evolves into his Keizer Ghidorah form, he can be quite powerful. Even the aforementioned gravitational beams turn into antigravity beams. These are shot from all of his three mouths and can even rival Godzilla’s atomic breath.

Krystalak

Krystalak’s presence in Godzilla Daikaiju Battle Royale is expected, as the crystalline kaiju was created for Godzilla video games only, starting with the 2007 monster video game Godzilla: Unleashed. Even though Krystalak might not be as tall as other kaijus, he is fast enough to counter the attacks of larger threats like Monster X.

His agility aside, Krystalak is a strong player because of the spherical energy blasts that it can generate from its tail. Although the ability can’t be used that frequently, Krystalak is also capable of firing purple prism beams. Unlike other characters, these aren’t mere energy blasts, but the beams include explosive crystal shards making for quite an explosive power.

Rodan

The giant Pteranodon kaiju Rodan is one of the few characters that can appear in multiple versions. In the game, Rodan can be played in his 1954 original movie version along with other versions including the 1964 and 1968 Toho Godzilla suits. Rodan’s powers might not be that impactful in the game, but his immense flying speed and agility make him stand out from the rest.

The best playing experience with Rodan comes out of moments where he just charges forward with the head aimed at the enemy’s chest. At times, Rodan can also hold his ground and bob his head like a woodpecker. Such moves bring out the nostalgic tones from the original Godzilla movies that were visceral but also laughable at times.

Gigan

Retaining the original Toho design as well as the 2004 Final War version, Gigan is one of the most unique-looking characters in the game. With its alien cyborg body, clawed arms, and fin-like sails, Gigan’s physical features set it apart from the other creatures.

Gigan’s medium physical size makes it perfect for quick combat and antigravity flight. Aerial slams can be resorted to in order to topple down enemies. Of course, Gigan might be dwarfed in the face of larger threats like King Ghidorah, but he can still put up an intense fight till the very end.

King Ghidorah

The iconic Godzilla monster King Ghidorah is one of the few “kingslayers” who have beaten down Godzilla. He appears in the game as its 1964 incarnation from Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster as well as the 1991 version from Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. As dedicated Godzilla fans would already know, Ghidorah’s iconic abilities, such as flight and gravity beams, are present in the game.

A three-headed monster with each of the heads firing beams definitely makes King Ghidorah a force to be reckoned with. Much like SpaceGodzilla, there are moments when King Ghidorah hardly moves to immobilize his enemy. However, SpaceGodzilla seems to possess more agility in the game.

Godzilla

Of course, the original kaiju gets his moments to shine in his own games. From atomic breath to nuclear pulses, Godzilla gets to use most of his distinctive abilities. As these powers culminated from several movies since 1954, the game also allows players to switch between the multiple avatars of Godzilla, ranging from the Toho original to the recent Hollywood versions.

With 10 versions available, Godzilla also happens to be the most customizable character in Daikaiju Battle Royale. Efficient combat skills and quick energy recharges make the thermonuclear lizard a perfect fit for the Battle Mode.

Mothra

The benevolent flying “moth” Mothra has appeared in several kaiju movies. She might not look that intimidating, but she is easily one of the strongest characters on Godzilla Daikaiju Battle Royale. Just a few flaps from her wings can cause immense damage to enemies like Krystalak, Orga, and Gigan.

And if the wings don’t work, a few antenna beams and lightning charges can also come in handy. As Mothra continues flying through every battle, it is very convenient for the monster to dodge attacks as compared to land-based creatures like King Kong.

SpaceGodzilla

If a player chooses to fight as SpaceGodzilla in Daikaiju Battle Royale, a certified win is on the cards. While other characters must jump around, charge forward, or just wait to generate energy blasts, SpaceGodzilla can annihilate its enemies with hardly any movement.

True to its cinematic depictions, SpaceGodzilla can generate crystal shields and fire the deadly Corona Beam from his mouth and shoulder crystals. The energy manipulation and the beams are more than enough to totally wipe out smaller threats. All in all, SpaceGodzilla is arguably the most effortless character in the game.
