Groom-to-Be Slams Bridal Dress Shop After Fiancée Asked to Pay Extra for Undergarments to Match Skin Tone

Bachelor in Canadian Paradise Season 2 star Joey Kirchner is criticizing a wedding dress shop that he claims told his fiancee, Tessa Tookes — who he met on the show in 2023 — that she could get free “bare” underwear matching her skin tone with the purchase of a dress, but would have to pay extra for underwear to match her black skin.

On their TikTok account, @joeyandtessa, Kirchner explained the situation — and also called out wedding dress designers — in a new video, saying, “TikTok wedding dress designers — we have a problem.”

He went on to detail how his bride-to-be, Tookes, who appeared briefly in the video, visited a dress shop in search of a wedding dress.

“She went to the store — which should be one of the most magical days of her life, aside from marrying me, of course — and she went to buy this beautiful wedding dress,” Kirchner said.

According to his video, staff at the store – who were not named in the video – told Tookes that suitable underwear to wear under the dress was available in two options.

“They offer a standardized selection, which is free,” Kirchner said, adding, “But if you want underwear to match your skin tone, there is an additional charge.”

He continued, “So you’re telling me it’s free to be white, but if my bride has a skin tone other than white, she has to pay extra money to have her underwear match her skin tone?”

“First of all, why is it standard white?” he then asked, adding, “How is it that in 2024, the standard, which is free, is bare skin? A nude can be many different colors, but they decided to make a white nude the standard?”

After being told the price of the underwear, Kirchner then explained that Tookes had to stand and feel “awkward” with “people selling her a dress.”

“They’re not designers,” he admitted, but again explained that the store had told him to charge for underwear that matched her skin tone.

Kirchner went on to explain that Tookes then had to “walk around awkwardly saying, ‘Well, I want the other one,’ but she’s not paying for it.”

Instead, Kirchner said his fiancee ordered “bare” underwear and plans to dye it herself to match her skin tone.

“Wedding dress designers, take a g—— note: this is bulls— and you should be called out. Understand,” he said at the end of the video.
