A passenger in Mycroft’s Seat Ibiza, 20-year-old Sarah Oliver, was tragically killed in the crash. Two others were seriously injured.

Mycroft pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and seriously injuring two other people.

She was sentenced today at Sheffield Crown Court to nine years in prison and a 16-year driving disqualification.

The court heard that Mycroft was speeding through a 40mph zone – and ran a red light on Wheatley Hall Rd – when she collided with another car on August 2, 2022.

A video obtained by South Yorkshire Police shows the accused using her mobile phone and laughing as music blares in the moments before the fatal crash.

Mycroft’s car was seen on CCTV driving above the 40mph speed limit through a red light before crashing into the side of a turning car, killing Mrs Oliver.

Members of Mrs Oliver’s devastated family today spoke after the case about how they missed their beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend every day.

They said: “She was a beautiful young woman who had her whole life ahead of her.

“Sarah had the ability to light up a room. She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to traveling and becoming godmother to her best friend’s baby this summer.

“She died six days before her 21st birthday and while we should have planned a celebration, we planned a funeral instead; her lives and ours were taken from us by selfish actions.”

Sergeant John Taylor, from South Yorkshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said the case was “tragic”.

He added: “Mycroft’s actions showed no regard for the safety of others and resulted in the death of Sarah and two other drivers who suffered serious injuries.”

“We know that Mycroft was using her mobile phone while driving and that she was speeding at the time of the collision.

“I urge people to consider the consequences of these actions.”
