The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City stars Whitney Rose and Angie Katsenevas love to keep holiday family traditions alive, but realize they have to evolve as their kids get older.
Rose, who shares daughter Bobbi, 13, and son Brooks, 10, with husband Justin Rose, says the most important thing is “just spending time together.”
“They’re at the age right now where we’re reading a Christmas story, book two, every night starting December 1,” Rose told PEOPLE at a recent DIRECTV Celebrate Christmas with Kathy Hilton event. “I know it won’t be realistic forever.”
“[There’s] dinner, socializing, gathering and skiing,” added Bravo. “We ski every Christmas Eve. It’s one of our favorite traditions.”

Rose hopes to move away from giving away physical things.
“I try to push my kids more towards experiences rather than gifts. We try to get away from things and build memories,” she explained.

Fellow actress Angie Katsanevas, who has a 12-year-old daughter, Elektra, with husband Shawn Trujillo, hopes to instill a similar lesson.
“Every year we choose a family to help, so my daughter learns more about giving during the holidays,” Katsanevas said. – It’s not all about income, so she realized how lucky she is and that there are also those less fortunate.

As for family traditions, the reality star — who’s the host Real Housewives events at her home — organizes an annual party with a special guest.
“My family is huge so we have a sit-down dinner with tons of food. And then we have another party where we invite Santa and friends. It’s something we do every year,” Katsanevas added.

Rose is an original cast member The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, which is currently airing its fourth season on Bravo. Katsanevas was promoted to full-time housewife status this season after being a “friend” in season three.
