Huge pop star to launch shock comeback with his first original single in 12 years

MORE than three decades since he topped the charts with the singing classic The One And Only, Chesney Hawkes is aiming for another No.1.

The British legend co-wrote the track with top producer Jake Gosling – who has worked with Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran and One Direction – and is set to release it later this month.

The single, Get A Hold Of Yourself, will have its exclusive premiere on Radio 2 on September 18 and is part of a major new music project from Chesney due next year.

He told me: “It’s really strange to relive all this – three decades later and with three decades worth of growing up.

“It took a long time to feel confident enough to really get back into the project, but growing up and feeling a lot more comfortable and free in myself allowed that to happen.

“That’s what Get A Hold Of Yourself is all about – holding your own and being free and not worrying about what people think.

“I think people will be surprised that this is a Chesney track.

“I can’t wait for people to hear it and I think the video for it will surprise them!”

It will be good to have Chesney back.

Ill Chris a Souper star

BOWLING FOR SOUP frontman Jaret Reddick says the band’s badass guitarist Chris Burney is appearing on their contribution to Disney’s new punk-pop album A Whole New Sound, despite being in the hospital.

He told me from his home in the US: “Chris couldn’t play the song, Friend Like Me, but there’s a part of the song that says, ‘You big nabob’, and that’s Chris.

“We had to include him any way we could.”

A dance with chaos

ST VINCENT opened up about her album All Born Screaming.

She told Wallpaper magazine: “Between the theme of the album, which is black and white and all the colors of fire, you’re alive and then you’re really fucking dead.

“The rest is a dance with chaos.”

Sounds like I’m working on this column.

Vern snapped at DJ like that

PRESTON in Lancashire is party central this weekend as Radio 2’s Pop In The Park comes to town.

And Vernon Kay, who is helping to organize the three-day party, chose a simple backstage wish list – despite other DJs taking the mick beforehand.

Vern said: “My rider is four beers, four waters and a black towel.

“What more do you need?

“When I was DJing with a former Radio 1 DJ in Greece, they ordered an international cheese platter.

“I thought, ‘Who the hell ordered (that) in the middle of a Greek island?’ “

Stars playing including Sting, Manic Street Preachers, Pet Shop Boys and Craig David.

Vernon will also be playing DJ sets, adding: “I like the balance between the dance tunes you know from being in the club and the tunes you know from watching Top Of The Pops.”

Camila’s visit to Sabrina’s

CAMILA Cabello appears to have hit back at Sabrina Carpenter on an extended version of her fourth album C,XOXO.

Sabrina’s chart-topping album Short N Sweet, released last month, seemed to hint at a love triangle between her, Camila and Camila’s on/off boyfriend Shawn Mendes.

In the new song Can Friends Kiss? Camila sings, “I don’t like your new girlfriend, don’t touch me.”

Referring to her breakup with Shawn in late 2021 in the song Godspeed, Camila appears to address Sabrina’s claim that she taught Shawn how to be funny.

Camila sings, “I don’t think your jokes sound funny anymore.”

She adds: “And I hope you find some peace. God’s blessing.”

Awkwardly.

Gladiator Megan is fighting

THEY say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – so I expect Beyonce, Pink and Britney Spears will be thrilled to see Megan Thee Stallion recreate their Pepsi commercial 20 years later.

Singer Savage plays a sexy gladiator in a commercial that dropped yesterday.

She shouts: “Silence! Open the gates,” to her servants as NFL players, including Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, battle it out on the field.

Meg also put her own rap on Queen’s We Will Rock You and sings, “I don’t let the haters stop me/ I do my big thing every time ’cause I know they’re watching/ I’m the one to win, make them stand up/ I’m the one that makes your best fighter lose sleep.”
