I Ditched My Denim Shorts for These $24 Linen Ones That Are Good for Hiking, Camping, and Sightseeing

Two summers ago, I finally decided to ditch my denim shorts. I stopped dealing with the restrictiveness and not-so-fun (but seemingly inevitable) feeling of riding them.

In my search for a replacement, I discovered the Amazon Essentials Linen Blend Shorts, which caught my eye because of the bright terracotta orange color and the affordable price – only $24 a pair. I’ve recently invested in basic neutral tops, so I thought a colorful bottom would be a fun way to dress up my wardrobe.

The shorts quickly became my go-to for every occasion, and I bought a second pair in green because they’re so that good.

They’re made from a cotton/linen blend that’s soft and free-flowing, but the shorts are still flattering since they hit my natural waist and aren’t too baggy. I like that they look a little dressier than my athletic shorts, and with a 5 inch inseam, I’ve always felt comfortable wearing them for most occasions.

I wore shorts while hiking, camping, and sightseeing. Last summer they cooled me down on a hot day while touring the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. I wore linen pants, as many celebs do every season, and midi dresses for most of the trip through Europe, but feeling the breeze on my legs was key to combating the heat that day.

The same shorts also did a great job during a barbecue set up next to a tent in Big Sur, California earlier this year. I also packed my green pair, which I wore to the winery on my way back to Los Angeles after camping.

I usually style them with a black or white crop top and sneakers or sandals, depending on where I’m headed that day. For an even more casual look, I like to throw on my favorite cropped graphic tee that has similar colors in the design.

I’m entering my third summer of wearing them, and I’m thinking of buying another color (or two!) before my cruise in June — maybe white or black to change things up.
