Jay Slater cops search buildings where missing teen’s phone pinged as fireman says ‘it’s strange’ he’s not been found

TENERIFE officers are searching small buildings in a deserted park near missing Jay Slater’s last known location.

The British teenager’s phone last rang in Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island, where the search is focusing on a 2,000-foot-high ravine.

Police, firefighters and mountain rescue have been searching for Jay for the seventh day

Pictures from today’s massive search show rescuers searching the sparse undergrowth around two small brick buildings.

One firefighter familiar with the area said it was “strange” that Jay had not yet been found.

Brigada Forestal’s Riccardo told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s very difficult to find people here because of the ravines and the mountains.

“I also saw the case of the missing boy on the Internet… but the days are passing now and it’s getting weirder that he still hasn’t appeared.

“The information we have is that Jay [and his friends] were going to a music festival, and after that, the last sign of him was here in Teno Rural Park.

“I don’t know if he walked, hiked… I just don’t know. That’s where I lose the thread.”

Rescue efforts on Friday focused on an area known to locals as the “wastelands,” searching a 2,000-foot precipice in a remote park.

Locals and experts have warned of dangerous conditions in the area – where the air is “thin”, temperatures change rapidly and mountains drop precipitously to the water below.

As the search enters its seventh day today, temperatures of up to 29 degrees are expected.

The UV rating is also “extreme” with a figure of 11 and 12 peaking around 1pm – anything above 11 is classified as extreme and dangerous.

On Friday, Lancashire Police offered to help Spain’s Guardia Civil in their efforts to find the teenager.

But Tenerife police rejected the offer and insisted they had the “resources” needed to find him.

At least 15 of Jay’s family and friends flew to Tenerife to join the search, including his parents and brother.

His distraught mother Debbie yesterday said she feared “something bad” had happened to her missing son.

She told The Guardian of the massive search: “I think it’s intensified,” but remains concerned that “something bad” could have happened to him.

It comes as…

WHAT HAPPENED TO JAY?

Jay went missing on Monday while on holiday with two friends for the 2024 Tenerife NRG Festival.

On Sunday night he went to a rave with those two friends, Lucy and Brad, but left with two new people he had just met.

After returning to their accommodation near the village of Masca, Jay missed the bus home on Monday morning and faced a 10-hour walk.

He called Lucy Law in a panic to tell her that he was lost in the middle of nowhere, that his phone was in front of the church and that he needed water.

That was the last anyone heard from him and a missing person’s report was filed around 9 a.m., triggering a major rescue operation.

Jay’s devastated mother Debbie Duncan, who flew out on Tuesday, sobbed as she pleaded for help to find her missing son.

In an emotional interview with ITN on Wednesday, she said: “It’s just an absolute nightmare. It’s like a dream – it’s not happening.”

On Saturday, a tearful Warren Slater, Jay’s father, said: “I just want my boy back” as he looked over the search area with his other son Zak.

Jay’s mum Debbie has slammed the investigation into her son’s disappearance for not allowing British police officers to give their input.

The mum also told the Guardian she spent eight hours at the police station as they unveiled plans to step up rescue efforts.

Two new pieces of information came to light on Saturday – including a possible sighting of Jay after he went missing.

Debbie told Mail Online that a witness went to officers and claimed to have seen Jay sitting on a bench with two men 5.5 miles from his last known location in Santiago del Teide.

Images from Santiago del Teide show a church and the bench where Jay was allegedly seen sitting.

The devastated mum said she feared “something bad” had happened to the teenager.

And a shocking new picture of the teenager showed him making his way through a packed rave hours before he disappeared on Sunday night.

New footage on Sunday shows Jay at a rave on Sunday before he disappeared.
