Sister Jean Goebel worked at KTRH, the CBS affiliate in Houston, while Jean worked as a secretary for a private company. She met Dan, the news director of KTRH, in 1956, through her sister.
Jean met Dan through her sister after she applied for a job as a secretary at KTRH. During the presentation, she described him as an attractive, intelligent and friendly man. They fell in love right after they first met and started dating the following year. In 1957, the couple got married.
