John Mulaney Hosts SNL and Gives His Kids a Cute Shout Out as Pete Davidson Shows off Almost Tattoo-Free Arms in Cameo

John Mulaney had some sweet words for his kids while hosting Saturday night live.

The comedian, 42, hosted the Nov. 2 episode, where Chappell Roan joined him as musical guest.

During the opening monologue, Mulaney talked about life as a father of two. The comedian and his wife, actress Olivia Munn, welcomed their daughter Méi June via gestational surrogate on September 14. The couple also share a 2-year-old son, Malcolm Hiep.

“I was great. My wife and I just welcomed a baby girl into our family,” he said to cheers from the crowd.

“We have a five-week-old daughter,” he explained, as well as a “two-year-old son.”

“My wife is taking care of a five-week-old and I’m taking a two-year-old out. And that’s not fair,” Mulaney joked.

He continued with a humorous comparison about the differences in child care: “It’s not an equal division of labor at all. Saying you have a 5-week-old, I’ll take a 2-year-old. That’s like saying ‘I’m going to take this convict across the state line, you’re holding the potato .’ ”

Later, at the end of the show, as the cast, guests and hosts stood on the stage, Mulaney took a moment to shout out to his children after thanking the others who participated in the show.

“Goodnight Malcom, goodnight Méa,” he said, waving at the camera.

Mulaney appeared in a number of sketches throughout the night, including one featuring a cameo from Pete Davidson.

The Saturday night live alum, 30, appeared in a sketch called “Port Authority Duane Reade,” in which he and cast member Andrew Dismukes shopped at Duane Reade’s store in Port Authority.

Wearing a white Rodney Dangerfield T-shirt for the sketch, Davidson’s arms were significantly less tattooed than in recent years, with very faded ink on his forearms and a few tattoos still visible inside his upper arms.

Davidson recently stepped out to attend a preview of The Room at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif., on Oct. 23 and revealed a more stripped-down look with arms that appeared almost completely tattoo-free. The comedian and actor spoke for the first time about removing tattoos in 2020.

Elsewhere on the show, Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance outdoors, just three days before the presidential election.

Maya Rudolph reprized her role as the vice president in the skit, in which Harris, 60, appeared near the end, opposite Rudolph in a mirror, dressed in matching clothes.

Host Mulaney was a writer on the long-running comedy sketch show for five years, starting in 2008 — the same year his recurring character Stefon, co-created with cast member Bill Hader, debuted on “Weekend Update.”

The comedian was the first host SNL 2018 during the 43rd season and joined the Five-Timers Club, that is, the group of stars who hosted the series five or more times in 2022. Christopher Walken, Emma Stone, Justin Timberlake and Alec Baldwin are just some of the other members of the club.
