Taking to Instagram, the real estate professional told his fans that he unexpectedly returned to the hospital due to jaundice amid health issues.

Writing extensively on social media, the star wrote: “In hospital again – I’ve been jaundiced since Friday.

“I had a fever and an acute stabbing pain in my right arm.

“Turns out I probably had an infection and otter issues that I won’t bore you with.”

Jonnie continued: “I was on drips, had regular blood draws and had observations every 4 hours throughout the day and night.

“I didn’t think I’d be watching @bbcmorninglive from a hospital bed, but that’s just part of the rollercoaster life this disease throws at you. I have to admit I was particularly touched by the birthday message from the team for my birthday this coming Friday – thank you so much.”

The father-of-three is likely to see his last birthday when he turns 50 this week after earlier telling his followers that doctors had told him that the coming Christmas would likely be his last.

Looking to the future, he said he has another appointment that could lead to positive news.

Jonnie said: “I have another scan today followed by an appointment with my oncologist so fingers crossed for positive news.”

The host of A Place in the Sun was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020 and only had a few months left to live.

He shares three-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with his wife Jess, as well as their five-year-old son Rex.

Asked if his children understand how bad he is, he told the Daily Mail: “Not yet. When I’m weaker or I’m in bed for days, we could.

“If you have 20 days left, why spend them in mourning and confusion? Why not just have 15 days of pure, blissful ignorance and five days of knowing the facts?

“I’m not looking forward to talking to Rex. We are still thinking about it. I’ve learned that it’s best not to do anything if you’re not sure.”
