Kris Statlander News

Since September 2022, Statlander had been unable to play due to an ACL tear. At AEW Double or Nothing 2023, she made a startling comeback and challenged Jade Cargill to a quick battle for the TBS Championship. Statlander scored the winning goal and took home the crown. She therefore dealt Cargill her first singles match defeat.

Statlander was questioned over the timeline for her comeback during the AEW Double or Nothing press conference. She observed that it took a while, as she had anticipated. The champion explained how having a long drive back allowed her time to mentally prepare and said that her amazing comeback made it all worthwhile.

Statlander had been a member of the AEW’s Best Friends group before being hurt. As a member of the CHAOS stable, the group also transitioned to New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). Statlander has had numerous opportunities to win the AEW gold but has never succeeded in doing so. We’ll see if Kris Statlander’s return will lead to a title run in AEW.

When asked if she was concerned about going from 0 to 100 by recovering from the injury and winning the championship, Statlander said she hadn’t made a big deal out of it but had been preparing to return. She was adamant that she wanted to make her comeback memorable.

Statlander also emphasised how she mentally prepared for making a comeback. She said her path had been easier because she had previously suffered a serious injury. When she first learned about the injury, the champion admitted that she was upset, but she quickly recovered and was ready to put in the necessary effort to achieve her goals.

“Having been there before, the journey was much simpler this time. Initially, we believed there had been both an ACL tear and a meniscus tear, but it was only an ACL. That means that two days following surgery, rather than using crutches, I was walking around in my leg brace. You wouldn’t be able to accomplish that if you had a meniscus tear. I thought my mental development was moving much more steadily in the right direction. We believed it might be a hyper-extension, but when I had the MRI and learned the results, it was much easier because I had been through it before. I recall crying nonstop for three hours after learning the news.
